I wanna buy a polarizer, but I have no idea what to buy. What is the deal with thread size? Which one should I get? Does it depend on the lens, the camera? Is this a stupid question? :)
Based on my lenses, which thread should I get?

You need a circular polarizer because the linear kind will throw off the metering in your camera. (if it doesn't say circular polarizer or CPL, it isn't).
You should also get a multicoated polarizer to reduce internal reflections and to allow more light through the polarizer.
The front of your lens should have a circle with a slash through it (sort of like this Ø ) and a number. That is the filter diameter (ie filter size) in mm. If your lenses have different filter sizes, but they're not too far appart, get a CPL for the biggest size, and "step-down" rings for the smaller ones (unless money is no object, then get the correct sized CPL for each lens). |
