Prozac and myself will be wondering around Sunday morning most likely :)

So is there an official meet up place and time?
06/08/2006 07:02:41 PM · #78
I will be there with Gwen (mysticred) on Friday night around 7 and staying till Sunday. If people decide when and where to meet on Saterday I think it would be fun to hook up.

So did anybody go? The thread sort of died out, and I was thinking of making the trek for Sunday morning, but not just to stand around by myself...

Heh... I was just looking back through my emails for your phone number, Kris. Maybe we can try for the balloon festival in Plainfield, CT at the end of August? That's where I proposed to Mrs. Scalvert at 800ft. ;-)

I had been thinking about going tommorrow, but if it's not raining, I am desperately in need of a long bike ride to train for my bike trip in July.

I wondered today if anything went on anyway--it was windier than heck here, and if it was also like that in Springfield, I don't imagine they could have flown. Or could they?

I went today, it was way too windy to let the balloons go up! Tomorrow doesn't sound a lot better, the forecast says WINDY for Sunday, today was just supposed to be BREEZY, but some of those breezes hit 40 mph! :(

I'm not sure but I think I saw someone that looked like Robert (Bear_Music) there, wearing a black cowboy hat and carrying a sling-type camera bag, was that you Robert?

I also got a card from one of the balloon owners and his website is as follows, and has their upcoming dates and locations. I'm told the one in Glens Falls will have over 100 Balloons and "sight-seers" will be allowed right up close to theballoons.

I skipped it today due to the weather but still hoping to get out there tomorrow IF it turns out better than today - not looking good at this point though. I don't want to drive out there an see no balloons :-/

I did go today, and they did have to cancel the launch. They nearly cancelled last night, but were able to go up for about an hour before it started to pour. It would have been fine, but the wind was too strong. Still, there was so much to see and do that though I was slightly disappointed, I still had a good time. My favorite was the marionette show. I watched it through my camera, cutting out the people working the puppets, and it was absolutely enchanting. I won't be going back tomorrow, but I am keeping my eyes open for other New England sites for balloon fests. Still want to see some of those darlings up in the air.

I bailed on this one too. We were getting deluged over here, and word from Springfield was "sea of mud" :-( Maybe that Connecticut festival?

The closest we got to seeing a balloon was taking a walk about inside this retired balloon. When it was aloft it stood around 85 feet tall.

Sounds good - remind me when it gets closer. p.m. me for the phone number.
Neil, we can carpool if you want...

Ya I went actually even without the balloons Gwen and I had a good time. We found a place to eat Friday night with a band. Sat we went to the fair grounds no balloons but a lot to do saw the Air Force Band (After Burner) Saw Trick bike, rolla blades and skate show. Sat night saw the( Commadores). Sun again no balloons to windy. But saw a country rock Band (Phil Vassar) All and all made the best of a washed out weekend.

Well, it's supposed to be htttp://www.plainfivilleballoonfestival.com, but the site appears to be down. It's scheduled for August 25-27th this year. There's a MUCH bigger hot air balloon event in New Jersey at the end of July.

My hubby and I went up in a balloon for the first and only time in DelMar (several years ago).

Yesterday, we went back to the York, PA balloon fest (went last year).
We again did the morning and evening launches.
Great time. This year they actually were able to launch in the evening. Last year - they only got to inflate...then the night glow.

Here are a few I have just uploaded:
