Is there enough of a difference if any to justify the cost between the two?

I also assume that both are better than using PS even though some people recommend that I stick with PS's bi-cubic in small increments?

I use Miranda's SI Pro application in PS7. It works well and would recommend it. You can make an action (I did) that will work OK but you are better off with a purchased product. The time and convenience savings is well worth it.

I've used it with files cropped under 5 megapixels to build AND print up to 16 X 20 gallery quality prints myself. I've build print files as large as 20 X 24 using it.

Research I did seesm to indicated there was no discernible difference between that and Genuine Fractals though both claim to be better than the other. :)

After I got CS2 I conducted tests to find that its "Bicubic Smoother" option for upscaling print files does as good a job as SI, which I found very surprising, so I use that now. It is also lightning fast. It is unusual for a Photoshop feature like that to do as well as a 3rd party application. Will wonders never cease?!

I use Fred Miranda's actions, and consider them to be better than Genuine Fractals.

when you say "actions" do you mean the program itself?

Both of them claim to be better than the other. I'm sure under different situations and hand-picked photos they can prove it. Overall for most uses, both do a great job. I use FM SI Pro II and use it exclusively for Alamy upsizing. Never had a problem with it. If you start out with a good sharp and well composed photo with as low noise as possible both or even PS CS2 will do just fine.
