This guy Crouch is not very impressive to me, hope Rooney recovers soon!
Good luck!

Nice game, unexpected final score given England domination of the first half.

One victory in the bag, many more to go. I have that feeling this year....

Disagree - Crouch at 6ft 7ins is such a target and has scored twice recently. But he needs someone like Own to poach off him in the goal mouth.

Rooney will be in after the group matches without a doubt but I worry about Eriksson's tactics.

I thought Lampard was below par today and the referee was very dubious!!!!

Crouch actually scored 3 in the previous game, and 1 in the game before that, but he definately needs the right service which he lacked today. Rooney may even make an appearance in the group stages if England are comfortable, to get him match practice for more important games. I thought Lamps did alright, and the referee was definately shit :P

Owen was taken off because his timing was off..not by much, but enough to warrant being substituted.

Where was that referee from? Paraguay?

As for Crouch...I'm a Villa fan...but I still have no idea why he is in the squad...he's awkward and gangley and misses more than he hits. Is he there to intimidate?

Crouch I think got the bad end of the stick in this game. I feel the ref was calling fouls on him just because of his height. Some were good calls but I have to say most were dubious.

... and near the end, a blatant obstruction was given a blind eye by the ref.

Oh, well. A win's a win, right?

Zigic, Serbian forward is 202 cm, and we got Kezman, they gonna make the great tandem if Zigic starts the game tomorrow.

Yep...I said to my husband when Crouch got booked 'that's height-ism':))

I agree a Win's a win. I hate it when England start off really well and the press start saying they're going to win and build them up and up and up until...they fall flat on their bums:) I'd rather a slow, careful match by match build up thanks. And I made a bet tonight with my husband that Crouch would score the winning goal of the World cup 2006:))

I think Crouch will lose his place to Rooney by the final if England get that far

Why Owen was taken off, no idea. But I think a slow start is good for them. A slim win, but let's hope they work a little harder in the next game.

Edit: "GOOOOOOOOAL! 3 mins! Beckham!!!!!!!!" ???? Wasn't that a guy from the other team :-)

I hope so...in fact I have been on my hands and knees praying to the football gods that Rooney will play. But fitness and reoccurring injury -especially if he is targeted like Joe Cole was tonight might mean the lanky one will play;)

I think the ref was from Paraguay. I also think Lampard had a pretty solid match, some of those strikes were inches away. Next match is against who?

Ref: Marco Rodriguez (Mexico).

Why would a mexican ref be deemed impartial in this game?

I just saw way too many calls against England that shouldn't have, and then almost no calls against Paraguay. But doesn't matter now.

Be fair;) Without that excellent free kick from Beckham there would be no goal..are you saying the Paraguay player deliberately headed it into the goal? If not, it was an excellent free kick that he could not stop;)

I lived in Penang for two years btw:)) Nice to see a KL DPCer;)

LOL...believe it! I thought you might be from Paraguay so I looked at your profile;)

I actually got married in Penang at the Park Royal and lived on Gurney Drive (no 1):)) Those were happy days..in fact I remember watching the European Cup there in 1996?

Yeah but I was typing as it happened and at that point it was being attributed to Becks. And it was his beautiful cross that made it.

As for Crouch, how can you say he doesn't deserve to be in the squad when he scored 3 times in the last match???? (Thanks for the correction, Konodor - couldn't remember if it was 2 or 3 last time so opted for the conservative score!!) I think he is playing really well.
