I think it has to do with the world cup... now that the today's games are over, the votes will start flowing again.

Still around 6.0x @ 168 votes

Will I ever break 6?

For those that responded to my post above I thank you. I think I got a handle on it now. Very interesting how some of you thought about this challenge and I appreciate you sharing your thought process. I believe I can now vote effectively.

Before I even started voting I thought about the challenge and what it implied to me, and how that would lead me to vote.
I feel that true unexpected finds are best but staged ones are fine too, since they show imagination and creativity.
Of course they still all need to be interesting and well-shot photos, or they will get points for meeting challenge but not much else.
The ones that don't do as well with me are the ones that may show something unexpected to the photographer within his/her context, but can't express it to us without further explanation. eg; a shot of a dusting of snow. Unless I knew the photographer lived in Florida and not Alaska I would probably be trying to find something unexpected IN the snow, not thinking of the snow itself.

This said, I think there's some great shots in there, and I wish I'd been able to get something to enter :) Good luck all!

I just don't see anything that fits the definition of an unexpected find or discovery with a few exceptions and I can't vote on just a few.

I didn't enter. If someone wants to PM me with their shot title and explain to me why it fits the challenge I would be most grateful. I just don't get it.

I entered this challenge and I think mine fits, but I also think you are right. There are very few that seem to fit.

Same here. It's been a long time since I voted in a challenge with so many strange shots, strange as in way off challenge. Of the 7 comments my shot has, only one of the commenters says it is "wrong" for the challenge.

Well I hope you voters don't think I staged my photo, this time. Because it's not staged or a layout :)

I think it is a tough thing to photo. Mine for example was something that I would have never expected to photo, because it is something that is rare to me. However most people have been looking at it and saying what is unexpected about it. So maybe to others it is ordinary.

How can you explain to a voter what makes it unexpected in just the title when most are not even reading the title to begin with, but just clicking on the five until something colorful comes along?

I got as high as 5.6 only to drop in about a half hour. I would cut off my left one for a 6.0 Looks like I am safe.

It's a tough challenge. I too have noticed that the score has been dropping and dropping for a while now. Perhaps the weekend crew will be kinder :)

I'm rather disappointed. I had hoped to only go up from my previous scores. I wish more people would have left comments explaining their vote a little better. I like my shot, but did feel it might be a little bit of a stretch for meeting the challenge. I wonder if that is what is drawing the low score, or if people think the photo is crap.

I had someone make a comment
"unexpected?"

and like you it was unexpected. Especially for this time of year on a weekday. And I've never seen it before.

My score is so low I'm embarassed to post it lol. Only have 5 comments though so for a score so low and only 5 comments I'd REALLY like to know what people are thinking.

I think you will need to decide whether or not you are shooting something that means something to YOU...
it can be hard to do when you are just starting on a site that scores shots, and I hope you do well so as to gain the confidence to shoot what you want and then let the scores fall where they might...

yep, you're right. Though I wont be getting any ribbons hehe, I cant say it's a bad score.
