I dunno, but I'm wondering about the carpooling thing. What's the plan there? Have Subaru, will drive in exchange for gas money.

How about I make a personal project of PMing and getting email addresses from everyone who has expressed interest so we're not progressing at a snail's pace? We can nail down arrangements a little more quickly, figure out who is coming and who has lost interest, and post back here with final details and occasional bumps for late comers.

Sounds good...I even made you a cheat sheet at the same time as you were posting!

Sounds good to me karma and pekesty. But yeah, I was gonna start pm'ing, but I am glad you are going forth with it. I would be up for carpooling, especially if we do do this as early as getting up there for sunrise, because I don't know if I would be able to keep my eyes open to drive. That's really early, but well worth it for sunrise shots and light. Never been up to mountains at sunrise. Pathetic I know. So count me in for that side of things.

Okay - everyone who has posted expressing even mild interest has been PM'd with the current details. If you did not get a PM or want to be added to the mailing list, please PM me. Thanks!

How about possibly making Summit Lake the meeting place at 5:00am? It will already be getting light, but will still have time for setup prior to sunrise. Any seconds or rejections of this idea?

I will be driving from Castle Rock. If anyone needs a ride, and its not to far out of the way let me know...I have room for 2 people.

Meeting at 5am will not work for me. I work nights and usually don't get to bed until around 2 or 3 am. That gives me about an hour or 2 of sleep. Maybe I can meet up with everyone later.

Don't see why not, just takes a little coordination is all!

I live in Castle Rock, and I recomend Castle Wood Canyon State Park if you need a fun day hike. It has a water fall, and if you hike far enough you will get to a 1900 dam that broke and flooded the town back in the day. They left it broken, and it is kinda fun to take a look at. Also it is a canyon so one side is cliffs that house Turkey Vultures, and Great Horned Owls as well as Golden Eagles. Also the valley where the water used to be in the lake is a nice local for wildflowers although that season is starting to fade here in Castle Rock.

Beau-

I should be able to give you a ride, but I need to know how much room your equipment might take up. A friend wants to come along and will be bringing her Australian Shepherd, and she wants to make sure he'll have enough room to be comfortable. I didn't suggest it, but she didn't think twice about checking into a rental car to follow us up.

If this sounds all too complicated, you're welcome to see about the ride from Castle Rock instead.

Everyone else:

It's looking like 5am at Summit Lake. Several folks have mentioned a second meeting time later for those who can't be there for sunrise. What did you have in mind?

If anyone is just wanting to meet up with the group later for lunch, what did we have in mind for that?

Because of the early start I'd like to be back to town around noonish. Send me a PM if this fits the bill of anyone that would like to hitch a ride and could meet me at the parking lots at I-70 & HWY 93 at 4am.

Sunrise on Mt. Evans + 30 second exposure challenge = Winner.

I would expect quite a few shots, from you early birds, for this challenge.

Less than two days away, so I'm giving this a little bump!

Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread, but I am just curious.

Has any Colorado members gone to, or know of, Smoky Hill High School? Adams State College?

I have been trying to find directions to Summit Lake. I believe that is where we are meeting. If I pass Echo Lake on HW 103 will I end up at Summit Lake?

Eric, if you're coming up HWY 103 from Idaho Springs...there is a right turn just after Echo Lake. This is the road to Mt. Evans, should be recognizble by a booth/pay station. There should also be plenty of signage. Summit Lake is a little more than halfway up.

There is a link for a topographic map on page 3 of this thread, that may help. You can also send me a PM and I can give you my phone number if you need more info.

Hope this helps!
