I know that it's not particularly helpful, but at least it's roughly in the same vein. These were taken using the sigma 12-24 at 12mm. I know, I know, the Sigma has a larger image circle, but I tried.

The vignette on the last one was done in PP, by the way.

somebody just told me that theirs can go down to 15mm which is pretty good, I have a 17mm now so that's pretty darn wide :-)

Interestingly, if it's true it can get to 15mm, it's wider on the 1D at 15mm than at 12mm on the 20D.

Two samples were posted in my fredmiranda thread. 17mm and 16mm they look pretty sweet.

friend has a 1D mk2 n (1.3 crop) and had that lens - sold it to get a30D and now wants to buy it again!

He said it was good from 15mm on up.

I don't want to sound condescending or anything, but if you are using a lens that, say, vignettes too much between 12mm and 15mm, wouldn't you be better off looking for another solution? The reason I ask this is that, in the rush to get a shot, you might end up with all the edges unusable. I haven't seen too many samples, however if the vignetting can be fixed in Adobe Camera Raw (or equivalent), then you'd probably be OK.

By the way, as you've already got a 17mm lens, could you not wait and save your pennies until you could get the Sigma? Just a suggestion.

I'm planning on running two bodies at the same time... one being a 20D which has no issues with vignetting. However 17mm on a 20D isn't very wide.

I hear what you are saying, so why don't you use the 17mm lens on the 1D and longer lenses on the 20D and hold off buying something else until you can get an ultra-wide that won't vignette on the 1D? I know that the Sigma has come in for a bit of a bashing in some reviews, but I found the one that I had more than acceptably sharp. I've had a couple of prints from shots with the 20D and Sigma 12-24 done at 20" x 30" and they look just fine.

I'm not trying to brow-beat you, I'd just hate to see someone make the wrong decision, just to get something on the quick.

I hope to use the 1D as my main camera hense the more useful lens length... but you do make a point. I will think on this.
