Well, I got dq'd for my eggcetera image because I tried to enhance a star flare in the original by adding a star treatment. I thought that as long as it existed, you could enhance it with a filter. I was trying to define the star better. So I went out and bought a star filter that screws on my camera, reshot with better light, and the results aren't all that different regarding the star. Here is the reshoot with pretty much the same edits as my entry, with the exception that I used a star filter on my camera. So I ask you, would they dq us for using a screw on filter as well?

The answer is no, you would not be DQ'd for that. That's the legal way of accomplishing it. |

The image shown here used a legal, physical star filter attached to the lens. The entry (not shown) was DQ'd for creating an artificial star in PS that wasn't in the capture. Drawing in a shape or object in post-processing is the express lane to a DQ. Sorry June! :-( |

Here is a more interesting question to ask...
If she had used PS to enhance this picture, the one taken with the star filter, to look exactly as in her submission would it have still been DQed?

I ran this by SC before I entered and was told I'd be in your situation if I used a star effect in Photoshop.
<==The one I entered
<==The one I wwnted to enter
I didn't want to risk another DQ on my record, so I asked first. I was told it would add an element to the photo that did not exist.
Edit to add: I'm not making a point either way, just letting you know that you weren't singled out for the DQ.

That one would have been DQ'd even if you painted the dog, just on principle. ;-P |

I swear, that is his natural color! I have to bleach his coat so the neighbors don't laugh at him. |

No, that probably would have been OK. They key IMO is that filters should be used for enhancement rather than creation. |

Getting dq'ed always stings. I hate it. Just brush it off and keep shooting:) |

Yeah, you're right. That fence in the back really needs to be painted. |
