Person or Thing

Just thought I'd point out that their test is actually wildly incorrect in several instances. I wouldn't rely on it to provide any answers.

And though all comments are very positive and even a 10, my score didn't go up again. So I think a lot of voters must've voted me very low I guess.

I sure hope this gets me in the top 25, I could sure use a momentary moment of glee.

Only 114 entries, not a long shot. I am hoping to break into the top half, that would make me happy!

Not really moving at all... I only wish I could break 6 with it. I don't know why - it won't put me in a contest for a ribbon but it sure looks cool when the score begins with '6'...

But you're doing great! I wouldn't complain about anything north of 6. Way to go Titia!

I'm not complaining, 16 nice, helpful comments, but I just miss that little 'Ahhh' and me skipping a heartbeat, as happened when I first saw my 6.3xxx opening score LOL. The low(er) and high(er) votes are in balance. If it stays, it's my second best score, so I'll keep my mouth shut and my fingers crossed and an extra package of cirarettes at hand.

edit: typo

Well done! I don't think I'm going to manage anything like that many comments on this challenge.

Some really nice shots of people in empty rooms but IMO I can't see scoring them high when they so obviously do not meet the challenge. People are usually more interesting than some of the other "single things" in the pictures so I think it is an unfair advantage to score the people picture higher when they veered from what I believe the intent of the challenge was. I think if it were to include people or animals it would have said so. which it clearly did not.

I viewed "thing" in the generic sense, like an item or a subject. I think my score is suffering as a result. To me the bigger question is, what constitutes "one" thing. The entries are all over the map on that issue.

As I said before, I didn't count off for having more than one item in the shot, but I bumbed scores that did have just one item.

I think there are some very strong images despite the low turnout. It is a very tough challenge.

text(But I bumbed scores that did have just one item) Am reading this correctly, you actually deliberately down scored because an entry met the details of the challenge, textHope none of your comments, stated does not fit the challenge.
IT APPEARS TO ME THE PHOTOGRAPHIC ELEMENT OF THE CHALLENGE HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A MIND GAME.

LETS GET BACK TO WHAT THIS SITE IS ALL ABOUT. ""DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY""

I'm thinking "bumbed" equals "bumped" (looks like a typo to me), so the scores were raised, not lowered.

Have any of you ever thought what these kinds of threads look like to those that vote? It kind of takes the enjoyment out of voting on a challenge to read what some of the particapants really think of the votes they get. Even though I know some are kidding and only a few are serious, it's hard to tell which is which sometimes. But then I've not entered a challenge yet, so I can't feel your pain. ;)

On top of that, it makes me think I must be the only person that voted either fairly and impartially or everyone else are judges of what makes a good image than I am. Regardless of which, it means I voted to high. Darn, that means I have to go back and lower my votes so I can vote like the majority seem to be voting. After all, it's never safe to not blend in with the crowd around here. ;)

Er.... no. From your profile:

Challenges Entered: 0
Votes Cast: 185
Avg Vote Cast: 4.8378

Now seriously, yes, it has been discussed over and over about what effect these threads have on the voters. There is a rather high bar set up for SC to lock it if it becomes extreme, i.e. if a particular image from the challenge gets discussed, but otherwise it is left to grownups (mentally, not physically) to shed off the bad taste from the threads like this one and try to vote fairly.

cheers,

-Serge

I'm not sure what you are getting at with your quote of how many votes I'd made or haven't made. I said in my post that I've not entered any contests. So are you saying that I shouldn't be making any comments because I've not voted in that many challenges? Which by the way, I don't think the stats refelct this last challenge that I voted in, not that it matters that much.

The reason I haven't voted that much? Because if I can't vote enough to at least get to the minimum required for them to count, why bother. And as many entries as most of these challenges have, some of us don't have the time to sit and go through them like many on here seem to do. I suppose I could go through and select the ones that jump out at me and give them an honest score and then on the other 90% just click on a score without giving it much thought. But that's not my way either, which is why when I do see a smaller challenge and I know I have the time, I vote. And since I did vote on this challenge, I thought I'd read the thread on the scores when I saw it. I guess that was a mistake. But even if I don't read any of these types of threads in the future when I vote, I'll still know that it is full of posts like those in here talking about those that vote.

I know I'm just another pixel in the thousands that make up this site and regardless of if I vote, comment or enter challenges it doesn't make a bit of difference... but I've never been satisfied to be just another silent random pixel. ;)

Wow, Mike...
I haven't been that serious. But, you can't know that by reading thread posts, can you?

In short, I only reacted (jokingly) on your post where I understood that you will lower your votes... and I found that your average vote cast is 4.8 (not the quantity, the average). So, you've already been voting below average, and now you want to lower that.

This is all intended to be in good faith, for fun (both the challenges, and my comments), so don't get too worked up because of it.

Enjoy!
