I'll give it a shot, Clara. All of the money goes to a good cause anyway.

Yeah, I WAS a smoker for 25 years.
Last few years, I rarely ever had more than a couple in the course of a day. Well I've been smoke-free for over a month now - enough was enough.
Family history though - though my Dad is still alive (77), he's had a number of stents and has a pacemaker, older sister (2 years older) had a brain aneurysm & a stroke & recovered from them, younger sister (4 yrs younger) has had irregular heartbeats and fluid around the heart most of her adult life.
I'm gonna' beat the odds, or at least enjoy what time I have anyway...

I'm in. Brad, sounds like you have a pretty rough family history, but it also looks like you have a pretty tough family history too, all those heart problems and people recovering from them!! not that that's to be relied upon, but... |

I'd be interested, but how is this going to be judged? Because if it's going to be like a biggest change wins there's no way I can win, but heck, it's for charity anyway. |

It's not just the biggest physical change. Heck, that's just no fun. It's a combination of both physical change and mental. You submit both pictures, and a written statement discussing what's changed for you.
Okay, since there is enough interest, give me a couple days to pull the particulars together. I'll have details up on Friday. :) |

I'd be up for it. I just bought a fancy-schmancy treadmill Sunday and have started heavy-duty workouts on my extremely out-of-shape self. This could help me stick to it. :)

I am interested too. I am once again drinking Slim Fast in the mornings---it worked for me once when I had a large amount of weight to lose. I am trying to increase my activity level too. I go on vacation hopefully at the end of August, and it is my goal to lose some weight to feel and look better.... |

I have already been working out for a couple of weeks, but I do have before pics already made because I wanted to track my own progress. |

Hey Clara, just curious, but (provided there would be a 'winner') how would you judge the difference between someone that is say 185 pounds trying to add muscle, and someone that is say 245 pounds trying to lose body fat?

Yeah, but then you'd get shaky pictures, and you know DPCers don't like that :) |

I might be interested. Only thing is, I am letting my subscription end in July and I am not renewing, so I won't have a portfolio anymore. Will there be another place to post images? I was around 192 two years ago, got injured at work, went to get fixed, and found out I had extreme high blood pressure. So I started to get fit. Now I weigh about 142, but my blood pressure is on the rise again. Need to lose another 10-15 pounds to try to control it, so I would say count me in. |

Hey, it's no fair that I see this now!! I've lost 17 lbs. in the last two months. I've been going to the gym 6 days a week and eating 5-6 small meals a day. I've got 26 lbs. more to go to reach my goal of 200 lbs.
Here's me at 239 lbs. back at the Chicago GTG (I have the hair):

Okay- I've finished rounding up some willing victim...er judges.
Here we go-
Start date is the 19th of June, end date is August 20. This is 8 weeks. At the end of 8, if people want to we can continue for an additional 4 weeks.
I selected 8 weeks to help folks get into better shape in time for the last couple weeks of the summer. Again, if people are willing to committ now too 12 weeks, I'm totally cool with going 12. :)
Entry fee is $15, half goes to the winner and half goes to the American Lung Association in memory of Julie Whitt. I'll have PayPal up by end of the week.
Rules are:
1) You MUST submit a before picture to me prior to starting the challenge. I'll hold on to the before images and post them at the end. If at any time you decide to withdraw from the challenge, email me and your image will be deleted. I want the starting images as an indicator of your committment level. If you are willing to not only take the before shot, but send it to me, I figure that you are willing to hang in there at least 8 weeks. :)
2) Entry fee must be recieved within 2 weeks of the start date. I know how it is with rent and those other things like food. ;)
3) Judging will be conducted by a panel of 5 Non DPC members. They will judge based on 1) overall physical change as documented by pictures (before and after), measurements provided (scale weight, bodyfat percentage), goals reached, and final essay/written statement. The panel is a group of folks from the Torch website who have participated and successfully completed transformation Challenges in the past including the Body for Life Challenge. I will NOT be on the panel. Their decision is final.
4) You must submit after images and a written statement describing the changes you've made in the 8 weeks. This can just be a description of what you've done, but I do encourage you to look deeper. I promise you that if you committ to this process, you'll gain much more than a new body.
I really want to stress that the number of pounds lost or gained is only a part of this. What's more critical is overall change in health, attitude, fitness. So this makes it possible for someone with 50 pounds to lose to compete with someone trying to cut up or lean out.
If we have enough participation I'll expand things out to include categories. (That would be cool hint hint. ;) )
I'm giving you a week to get your before shots, measurements, and goals down. Goals? Why yes indeed! You need a roadmap of where you want to go.
Come up with 3-5 things that you would like to achieve in the next 8 weeks. Be specific! For example- in 8 weeks I WILL lose 10 pounds of fat.
Some wonderful resources are the Body for Life website which details exercise plans and has a great community in place.
Body for Life Trackeris another site.
Hussman Fitness is another great site with excellent resources.
You may notice I'm suggesting sites relating back to a particular program. I am. :) Why? Because it works. Period. It works faster than just about anything else out there.
I'm living proof.
So- just how much are you willing to do to change? :) |
