1.4 above the original

If you don't know what my original looks like just look at my model again, it will click with most of you :)

If my math is correct, that puts you above a 7. :-)

Waking up to .0503 better than the original. I wish I'd had some elegant way to put it side by side with the original shot - I think it would be doing much much better if voters could see the difference in quality. They are worlds apart, really, but scoring nearly the same.

Edit: I'm going to want some forum commentary when this is done. Not demanding an explanation why, just for the fact that I will be able to put them side by side and say, "Forget the competitive aspect - so how did I really do here?"

That it does, although I am holding my breath til it dips below. A ribbon would be nice although I don't think it will happen in this challenge, but a 7+ score to finish is really what I am hoping for. I have had 2 borderline 7 scores, but I think this shot blows them both away and I think it makes my original look like a really bad test run. If I could only take pics like this one everytime.

The scoring seems much tougher this time - maybe because it's advanced editing?

I am also curious to see what people think of side-by-side. Sounds like a good thread to start next week.

.2319 - that so far is the amount of imporovement my Take Two is showing. Sad.....if voters compared the two and voted based on that they would see differently I believe. Too bad the challenge rules did not allow for us to show our original side by side

I agree, part of my score the last time was the connection to the theme of the challenge.

Avg score: 5.0000

Alright, so it seems to me this challenge was a good idea in theory, but in practice it doesn't really have any good way to be done within the DPC structure. We can all go improve to a degree that blows the originals out of the water, but instead of being judged on our improvement - which seems to be the point of the challenge - we're still being judged against one another.

Then you factor in that many images have lost their context without a theme to make sense of them, and that a lot of people seem to have gone into voting with the mindset that they should be seeing the most perfect shots ever to grace DPC and are voting with an obvious disappointment.

Another thing to consider is that the standard of quality has obviously really risen since the site began, and so if you picked a photo from a long time ago the original would probably be scored much lower today than it was scored back then - that can account for some of the scoring frustrations as well.

I want to see this challenge as a sort of progress report, and so far it's just not going there. With no originals to look at, there's no context, and without context it's just a more frustrating than usual free study.

i kinda looked at it like a free study within the framework of a past challenge/photo. No worries. I like your "originals" idea, but maybe they can implement that another time.

This is .7 below my original! I notice other people are experiencing this phenomenon as well. Maybe people do vote relatively?

I think you're quite right Karma, I've seen mention of people voting tougher expecting to see improved photos. Rather flawed theory when you're trying to compare apples to apples. I think this will be one challenge that will require post challenge discussion to determine if we really improved or not.

I understand your reasoning for side by side during voting. But I wanted to give a totally unbiased vote. To my thinking this was the best way for people to compare before and afters. That ideal probably only works if people aren't intentionally judging tougher.

So far so good. 0.22 higher than the original.

Well, the night has helped some, but not enough. I thought I may have had a Top 10 shot, but I don't think I'm quite there.

To me is seems that voters are expecting more.
Things do a bit better now than few hours ago and I hope it will stay that way.
It is not good when you get lower score after all the improvements.

Not processing how one can "improve" a 6+ shot... sympathy drive not engaging... system failure...

I saw somebody do a take 2 on a top 20 image. I can't help but wonder if that person is just trying to get another good score instead of trying to improve. Sad. At least I tried!

My score is dropping. Vote count is still early though and I am hoping that I may be in most peoples group of pics that they may bump up a bit. There are some excellent shots out there and some amazing improvements made as I hunt down certain ones to compare. I plan on commenting and adjusting up my votes as the week goes on.

I really enjoyed taking my shot for this challenge and even though my take two is from fairly recent (I guess since I have only been here since March everything is recent) I can see that I have traveled up the learning curve a bit. Thanks to all for your votes, comments and critiques as well as your own photos and descriptions. They are educational, entertaining and inspiring. I love this site.

I'm one of the ones who redid a high-scoring image, but it's one I've always wanted to retake. This was a good excuse to do so. I doubt I'll see much, if any, improvement in score, but it was an interesting challenge for me and I had a specific objective in mind.
