Well, it may be because I'm a bit old but I have a hard time following who made which comment. I can never keep it straight when there is a list of names followed by posting of comments. Is there a way to attach the name to the comment when it is quoted?

The following example shows what I mean. Thanks........................

So you can follow the rules as they are written and still get DQ'ed.

It shows you can follow one rule but still break another.

Oh yeah, the rule that says you have to meet SC's idea of what comprises photography.

Whatever that means...

It's called the "Major Element" clause. I consider what you did creating a major element, regardless of the tools used to get there.

I honestly don't care what you consider. Your opinion is of no consequence anyway.

What it boiled down to was this (from the thread discussing my DQ):

"The Site Council will disqualify any photo it finds violates either the letter or spirit of these rules." (emphasis added)

This was the only reasonable explanation I received for my DQ and the rule is completely arbitrary, subject ONLY to the whim of the SC. Virtually any entry could be found in violation of this rule and DQ'ed. All it would take is a vote from the SC.

That's fine, but most people here aren't aware that entries are subject to such arbitrary rules.

That's not exactly an accurate representation of how they look. The posts are threaded so that you can see who wrote what.

That's standard for most online forums. How would you have it done?

some sites have each one in a little differently colored box...that does make it a lot nicer...not that I have a problem with how it is now.

It is a bit difficult to read, but the quoted texts are indented the same as the names of the person's whose text is quoted, and the quoted texts go backwards fromt he names of the person's being quoted. Boy that's hard to explain.

In your example:

Spazmo says: "So you can ...."
To which GeneralE answered: "It shows you can...."
To which Spazmo replied: "Oh yeah, the rule ...."
Then Justin_Hewlett says: "It's called the ....."
To which Spazmo finally ends saying: "I honestyly don't care what you consider .... and so on, and he goes on to quote GeneralE with a new quote, "The Site Council will disqualify ....".

That really is hard to explain.

OK, thanks. I'll get out me ruler and follow the indents.....until someone feels the need to fix it. At least I see how it works now.

First of all, David, I love your profile photo :)
OK, I dont quite like the indent system used on this site either.
Maybe add a vertical line on the indents (like an L shape) would be helpful. Other forum sites usually use a box to wrap an original quoted msg, and any other quotes will be wrapped in another box. I find this easy to use.

This site is built "from scratch," so it's a little harder to "just impliment' some feature you've seen elsewhere.
