I KNOW for a fact that someone is going to recommend me for DQ next week. Can I do anything in advance to explain/show the oldest copy (dl from cam) to someone, etc...so I don't get DQ'd? It's a legal photo, but it definitely doesn't look it. (IMHO)
Thanks!

I believe you can email the original file to the admins with a note explaining the situation, and they can apply a "validated" administrator's tag to your photo. Use the "Contact" item under the "Help" menu. |

I'm afraid that mine will suffer the same fate. It doesn't look legal but I assure you it is. When I submitted the pic, I explained how it was accomplished in the "Deatils" field but I will go back and ask if a disclaimer can be added as to not discourage potential votes. |

Additionally, make sure you note everything you did to make the photo in the details upon submission. |

So mavrik, who is John Galt anyway? The presidential candidate or the Seattle photographer or the philosopher--or someone else? Are YOU John Galt?

I didn't know who John Galt was either, but I'm a compulsive internet researcher and found this:
"THE TRUTH ABOUT JOHN GALT
In her novel Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand rhetorically asks, "Who is John Galt?" The question cannot be answered and is a symbol of objectivism. Among other things, it implies extreme individualism and distrust of government, which is similar to the beliefs held by most of our editorial board. In this spirit, The John Galt Press was born."
Now, of course, I have to look up "objectivism." I'll probably be on the computer having a grand time learning about things I didn't know existed until today. Bless you, John Galt, wherever you are! |

Cool research ruthiek!
Objectivism would indicate the ability or the frame of mind to look at things, say photography, without bias. Some say objectivism is impossible, but as long as we strive for it, many feel that it makes us better judges of others' artistic works.
So while some photos found here do not appeal to me personally, I can still perceive their photographic and artistic work if I am objective.
I suppose any more comments on John Galt would indicate the need for a new forum topic!

You REALLY don't want to get me started on philosophy and who John Galt is, but yes, I AM John Galt. :)
Objectivism is the belief that reason and rationality are our tools for survival and only through those can we REALLY attain the 'good life.' It's a philosophy and ethical system for those who believe in work=pay, better work=more pay, and not welfare, handouts, free rides...
Anyways, Galt IS a character in the novel and thus the answer is easy: John Galt is a fictional character in a philosophical novel. However, he stands for the ideal: the person who is in touch with reason and uses emotion to feel things and logic to decide things. "Who is John Galt?" means "questions nobody has the answer to...but they are out there if you look hard enough - who is the 'right' person?"
More than you cared for, probably, but sharing knowledge - I'm a compulsive internet researcher too. hehe
