I'll be traveling to Minneapolis next week for business and was hoping someone could suggest some interesting photo locations/opportunities ... I think that I'll get bored with the Mall of America pretty quickly and the Twins aren't in town that week ... I'll have a car so getting around won't be a problem ... thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Okie dokie. Well, there's always IKEA for when you get tired of the MoA. ;)

But for photography...

The Foshay Tower observation deck
The Weisman Art Museum is kinda fun, funky architecture
Minneapolis Sculpture Garden
Minnehaha Falls
Minnesota Valley Nature Center
Como Zoo and Conservatory - the MN Zoo is open too but it's kind of expensive and not that great for photographers...all the exhibits are really far away. The Como Zoo is smaller but free and really cute and the Conservatory is a dollar, I believe.
Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary
Lyndale Park Gardens
Thomas Sadler Roberts bird sanctuary
Normandale's Japanese Garden
The Basilica of St. Mary (location of my recent holy places entry)
Mpls skyline from Stone Arch bridge and Nicollet Island
St. Paul skyline from Harriet Island

This site has some neat photo tours so you can check out what these places look like before you go.

If you have more specific things you'd like to shoot (more architecture, more wildlife, etc.) let me know and I can probably recommend a few more specific places.

I'll second these locations. I've only been to less than half of them but they're all great from what I've heard.

You can get some good shots of downtown at night if you drive around on some streets and find a nice bridge.

Have fun in the twin cities!

*Also, downtown St. Paul can be beautiful both at sunset or at night. And there aren't a lot of people there, especially compared to Minneapolis!*

MMMMMM IKEA ... I used to live in California and loved that store. We're getting our first one in the Detroit area this month!

Thanks a million for all of the great suggestions, hopefully I have enough time to visit most of them ... I need to look at the weather forecast for next week ... my luck it'll rain ...

I'll post a link to the photos I've taken when I get back home and settled again ... Thanks for the tips!
