I have just upgrade my cable from basic basic to HD with a DVR so I can watch all friggin two hundred games in HD. I don't normally watch football (as the US sorta sucks for that type of thing), but love the World Cup.
As a warmup...can anybody name the official team names of all entrants?

Here is another link to the schedule of games, which will ALL be broadcast in HD on ESPN networks and ABC in the State.

Perhaps I'm referring to the unofficial names, not the official ones. England being The Three Lions, France being the Tricolors (or at least after an english translation), Camaroon (unfortunately absent) being the Indominable Lions.

I am not that acute of fan, Dr., but I am so very excited for the World Cup as well. I am not gonna upgrade (don't have HD TV itself), but plan on watching every single possible game. DVR is good idea though. England is my team. Of course I will cheer for U.S., but its gotta be England.

OK, I understand what you are asking now. Let me see what I can find out the nicknames for the various teams.

Don't ask me why, but I tend to cheer for the Swedes and the Dutch as second tier teams hoping to make it big. I'll cheer for the US (which is actually rare, I root against the US in the olympics) because they are underdogs. For the powerhouses, I guess I gotta like Brazil, eh?

My picks:
Germany
Netherlands
England
Portugal
I think the US is in a tough group. They may have a hard time moving to round 2. |

OK, here we go. Just click on the "team front" link for each team on the page below and you will see the nickname. I should have known to start with Foxssportsworld.com from the beginning.

There is something about France though. Three powerhouse names leading the way, ranked 7 in world. Sounds like a sleeper.

Brazil's nickname is actually Canarinho, which means Little Canary, because of its colors. :)

"We" are going to kick the shit out of all the other teams.
Not that I'll be watching.
I cannot wait for the Dutch to play. It means empty streets and even the police will sit behind the tv or is to busy with incidents at pubs. That is the time when I go all out with my mc on the streets. Hmm, I actually do that all the time, but when the streets are really empty is has a little extra.

See, this crazyness is what I am going to miss the most from home. In Brazil, when the team plays it is a holiday. People are allowed to leave work early, or not go to work, just to watch the games. Even the government and law enforcement... and it's totally official.
The streets are also empty in there...
Now, I live in the US, so it's gonna be soooo sad to watch the games by myself..pathetic me screaming alone. :)
