VERY nice score in that one! Good luck with it!
I think I've hit everyone's so far - if I've missed you in a recent challenge, kindly let me know.
I had one in lens cap, have one in "heat" that's currently beating Tim's (I hope) but won't ribbon or be in the top 10 - maybe top 25? I'll have one in architecture when I finally decide which 5.3 shot I want to use, and will have one in Beatle's song title that may be a strong 5.5 contender. Or may not. I can never figure these things out beforehand.

I owe you guys and gals a TON of comments... I'll work on it, I promise. So sorry. Just incredibly busy, afflicted by allergies, and occupied with a 4 year old who enjoys the outdoors :) |

No problem. Sometimes life just takes over. As far as I'm concerned, when you get back into it just pick up from there. No sense going back however many challenges. Just my opinion. |

I'll get to those that had pics in the open challenges tonight after work. And yes, for the record, I did beat Tim in "Heat" :-) (I can't claim beating Tim very often.)
I really don't know how to gauge how others see my pictures - do any of the rest of you have that problem? My "Heat" picture really seemed to connect with a lot of people and I did think it was pretty cool (mostly because I'm a closet pyromaniac), but I have others that have done far worse in challenges that I like much better as pictures.
Who's got what in which this week? |

Well, no need for comments on my Beatles challenge. I've been DQ'd.

Bummer, Kelli. What did you do to get DQ'd, if you don't mind sharing? It may help one of us avoid the same thing. If you'd rather not say, that's fine, too. Hang in there - and post something new in your portfolio we can comment on instead. :-) |

I guess I misunderstood the rules. I used a spotlight lighting effect filter. I thought all effects filters were permissable in advanced editing. They said it created a major element. Live and learn. I think I'll stick to basic editing even in the advanced editing from now on.
edit to add: I voted in that poll that the rules should be the first thing fixed. I think it should be spelled out what filters are OK and which are not. I could have submitted the same picture without the effect if I had known.

I'm in architecture and single light source challenges. I haven't entered in any of the current challenges, but will probably work on those tomorrow.
I believe I am current with everyone on my comments. Let me know if I missed anyone.

Wooohoooo. All caught up...I think. I switched over to using the same general format that I use for offering Critique Club comments, as I believe that this commitment is just as important. Let me know what you guys think, and if the info I include is enough and helpful. Also, let me know if I have missed any of your submissions.

I like the format, Eric. I may borrow it!
And yes, it was natural light for the "Heat" shot - I shot it on my back porch. It's nicely diffused that time of day as the sun is over the top of the house by then. I agree a bit with both you and Kirsty that perhaps keeping the flame in the picture might have been better, but I'll never know as that's the way it was shot. :-) In a way, I kinda like it leaking out, and had it all been in the frame when shot, I'm afraid it might have been a tad unbalanced. I may check through the rest of the shots to see if I have one where the flame is still contained in the frame. It was definitely a fun shoot, that's for sure!
Working on Empty Room (original idea has been scrapped due to lack of desired prop) and Take Two. We'll see if I can come up with something.

I've stolen Eric's idea, but with a slightly different format (my own standard CC).
I think I'm up to date except I owe Tim his Success critique - I'll get to you asap, sorry but I've got to rush now. If I owe any one else any please let me know.

I am back home everyone. I still need to unpack but after I get the kids in bed tonight I will try to catch up on as many pics as possible. I have a pic in Single Light Source and plan on having one in Take Two and oneof the open challenges. Other than that i skipped on architecture and will skip on empty rooms.
On a side note for Eric - your reviews on the same pic get better and better the second time around. I was thinking that I won't check that box anymore as long as you promise to leave two critiques on my pics anyways. I had started to uncheck the box on certain shots but left them on others and go figure - you get them all now.
I really appreciate everyones comments. If it werent for the comments from this group I probably would not have a proper entry for the Take Two challenge. Most comments (not all but many) recieved both during and after are either your pic is great and made me laugh or your pic sucks. Not much to work with there. But the comments from this group are very helpful. Thank you all. |

I've stolen from both Eric and Kirsty but reserve the right to change my format at any time. Probably when I lose the little cut and paste notepad memo....
Not too many in architecture, huh? I really enjoyed this challenge. Got out, got to see things I wouldn't normally go looking for, and generally had a great time shooting this one. Appreciate the comments - got quite a few during the challenge as well.
My entry:
I chose it because... DPC colors, of course! :-) Actually, I like lines, curves, shapes, etc, and this had all of those. Several folks mentioned I should have cropped out the "box" on the right, but I kinda liked it there.
This was one of my favorites from my outings - same building, but a different side of it. Didn't scream "architecture" - in fact, didn't even mention architecture in a casual voice, so I didn't enter it:
I stuck a few others in my portfolio in the Outtakes folder. I do plan to go reshoot the Emily Morgan hotel one of these days - I was down there in the morning and it's a building that needs to be shot in the afternoon/evening due to the way it faces. |

Deb - This was my original entry in Beatles. It was really blown out, taken in very harsh lighting outside (full sun) in front of a white 6 foot fence. She had come straight from the hairdresser to a family party at a relatives house and put on her dress just for pictures. Her makeup wasn't done yet, so she didn't want any close up face pictures (you know how teenage girls are). I'm just not good enough in PS to fix those types of blowouts with healing or cloning (I tried). So looking at the rules, it said you could use any effects filters. I thought the spotlight would hide the worst of the blowouts. |

Yeah it is kinda blown out on her arm and forehead, but I still like the pose. Did you get more after she got her makeup done and all that? You'll have to post one or two if you did.
Edit to add - Eric, I did go back and put my post processing info in on the birds - added the original and another version based on some of the comments. I stopped by today, but the birds have all flown. Just an empty nest there now!
