Hi all,
Since I joined to DPC, I felt a little lost. Not in a bad way, but I felt like I was so bottom of the community, very new, that I didn't deserve to comment on anyone's work... but I did anyway(!).

I have only one little point-n-shoot Panasonic DMC-LZ2 camera. It is a very nice machine. I wish I could find all those people uses point-n-shoot cameras in one place instead of me looking thousands of member profiles :P

...or maybe a place that beginners post treats... and pros stop by to give advices... and those beginners could also comment to each others work little more comfortably...

I am not sure if there is a place like that in this forum. As far as I can see, there is none.

;)

Hello my name is Rikki and I too use a Point and Shoot from time to time ;)

Don't feel that you can't comment on anyone's photos... well except for Alfresco. He gets pissed when he gets comments. Shhhh. I didn't say that just now. Just because you're a beginner doesn't mean you don't have anything to contribute. We all learn from commenting each other's work ;)

Don't feel shy or bad with regards to comments or opinions. Welcome aboard ;)

Cheers,

Rikki

I'm always confused at people's defintion of Point and Shoot--
Just because you dont have a DSLR doesnt make your camera a P&S IMO.
I think that if your non-DSLR camera has Aperture/Shutter/Manual controls, then it a Pro-Sumer, not a P&S.
And just because you cant change lenses doesnt make a sub-par camera.
I don't think of my Sony F717 and a Point and shoot.

I typed in "MS Word" and cut-paste to forum text editor... It must be some characters left over from oh-mighty MS word :P I think I fixed the number situation.

Hi,

I think point-n-shoot cameras that has everything done automatically, like focusing, ISO settings, and other goodies. P&S camera lenses cannot be changed. This is what I know about P&S cameras, I might be wrong though. Some of the P&S cameras have some of the settings manual or auto options.

It's about the fotographer not the camera, after all :-)

"Point and shoots are by far the best selling type of camera. They are popular with people who don’t consider themselves photographers but want an easy to use camera for vacations, parties, reunions and other events."

I consider myself an amateur photographer... I love taking photos like pros. I don't think I ever use my camera for a wedding or a birthday just yet. I see my camera as a pro machine (for now). In the future I will buy a better machine, for now, it is my machine to practice my photography.

:P

I reckon if I used a P&S camera, my scores would be a whole lot better! ;-) Learning learning learning.... learning to be humble... eat humble pie.... especially in architecture III

Well since this was posted in suggestions, but no one has really said whether they like your actual suggestion yet, I absolutely would love a section in the forums just for beginners and/or those with P & S cameras. I think that could prove to be a great support to see how others at the same level evolve into better photographers around us. It's nice to have those to aspire to, but at the same time it's nice to be around those that are learning the same way we are.

I think it's a great suggestion.

I am planning to send private message to administrators later on about this, and see what would they say ;)

Why don't we just call them non-DSLR's?
This site can seem very intimidating when you look at the talent and equipment, but don't let it scare you. This is an incredible learning environment and everyone is welcoming and helpful.
On some sites, photographers jealously guard their techniques to prevent others from improving enough to possibly bypass them, but I certainly haven't seen any hint of that here.
If you have a question, several are right there with solutions and suggestions. If you have a problem, someone will help you solve it. If you just feel like having a laugh, you'll find that too!
I'm new too (3 months since I became a registered user and only 2 or 3 weeks since I became a member) but I've never been made to feel new by anything other than my own doubts.
Welcome! Relax, join in, have fun and, above all, grab all the knowledge you can. Soon you'll be kicking butt! :D

(ps. Check out my entries and see how much, and how quickly, you can learn here. If *I* can improve, anyone can!)
