As an example, I am very curious as to whether people think this picture would meet challenge. Is the room empty enough?

I just moved into my new apartment and there's junk everywhere... I don't even have all my furniture till next week so I'm not moving anything till it has somewhere to go. Looks like I'll sit this one out.

Yes.

If we want to get really picky, we could say that no room is ever empty.

Coolhar, just because a Challenge is possible, doesn't make it good. The superspecific challenges make for a very tight cluster of ideas. When you vote on more than 100 entries, they start to all look the same. The added problem is the DNMC crowd will psychologically limit the creativity even more because people will want to comply with the rules, but won't know how creative they can get.
That's the way themed photography competitions are supposed to be. To repeat an oft-used analogy, pretend that a paying client has asked you to do ....an empty room with one thing in it, perhaps the one thing is the client's product. If you want unlimited creativity you'd best stick to the Free Studies, or find some other non-themed competitions. Sometimes reality is called for in photography, and it doesn't hurt for people to learn to do things according to someone's elses's ideas instead of their own.

BTW, there is a lot more to photography, and life, than the pursuit of creativity.

Darn! I thought that there was a lot more to creativity than the pursuit of life and photography! Chuckle...

Well, I guess the proof of the pudding is in the tasting. We'll see on Sunday if it was a good challenge or not. I went on the record as saying I'm guessing it will be a stinker. I've been wrong before...but not always.

As always, those who prefer "good" challenges are welcome to suggest them (preferably complete with bullet-proof descriptions) in the challenge suggestions forum. Lots of the recent suggestions have been quickly drawn from there (including this one).

I actually really like this challenge but don't think i can get in since i don't have a camera, my girlfriend took it to Italy with her and i am still trying to locate another one. I do however have an idea but i doubt it would score well anyways but we'll see what happens i suppose.

best of luck to those that get it done

Man, I would have bought her a point and shoot and told her how great it would be to have a nice small camera for the trip:)

How are we going to know on Sunday night? Are you going to tell us?

If you are asking about "Sunday" it's cuz I'm on the west coast and rollover is at 9:00. If you mean how are we going to know the quality, I'm sure you are a big enough boy to judge it for yourself.

Thats what i get for promising her a camera for graduation, see i gave her mine and planned on buying a new one myself and put it off too long and now i am SoL for a few more days. But she called me from Italy and told me she has taken some great photos so it might all work out anyways.

C'mon people, use your imaginations! Think outside the box! Find a photo of an empty room on the internet, put it on your monitor, stick a glass in front of it and you've got your entry!

Dammit, woman, gotta go and spoil my blue ribbon idea.... Oh. Wait! I can still do it - I can stick my cat in front of the monitor! Yay!!

Or we could go with the WAY out of the box approach and do something just for fun, knowing full well it's gonna irritate the daylights out of the DMNC crowd. :-) I'm thinking a sunset, in a box, refracted in the chrome of a bumper of a classic car, maybe.

Well, now you've got me confused Doc. Just who were you addressing when you told us that 95% of the shots were going to be stinkers in your first post to this thread? Weren't you telling us what the quality was going to be like? I think that whole post was .... premature at best if not total BS. If a particualr challenge topic doesn't appeal to you you could just keep that to yourself and let the rest of us duke it out. Nothing is gained by running the challenge into the ground.
