Just like the title suggests.
There is a 'Helpful' box for incomming comments for challenge submissions.
Why not a box to let people know if their post was helpful when there is a question made?
It seems like there are alot of people that know what they are talking about, and there are alot of people that are out to joke, fart, or hijack a thread.
A 'Helpful' box to be checked by the author of a thread may be a way to encourage more insights to questions.
Just a thought,...back to my coffee.

This is an interesting idea. Some questions, though:
--Who could check the box? Only the OP or anyone finding it helpful?
--Would these stats be kept seperately from comments on challenge entries?
--How long before we have a nomination for an "unhelpful" box? |

1)as stated...author of post.
2)why does there need to be stats?
3)if helpful box checked, then obviously the unchecked boxes are self explanitory.

1. I see, should have read more carefully, I guess. I think only allowing the OP/author to check the box assumes that a comment can only be helpful to the OP...that the thread has "ownership." Often discussions related to the original post take off and subsequent questions are raised that may be answered...of course, none of those may be helpful to the OP.
2. Good point. It just seems to be tradition around here. It certainly negates the need for question 3.
I think it's nice to acknowledge help. I don't know if this is the best way, however. It would seem to open the door for people deleting posts because they weren't found helpful by the OP--while they might have been very helpful to others who cannot acknowledge it in the same way. We already see the other kind of acknowledgement where someone quotes part of a reply and states how helpful they found it...
Edit to ask: By the way, would you have found either of my replies to this thread helpful?

Your point taken.
Thinking this through, maybe in the Q&A threads, some sort of helpful box for the Author. Afterall, the question from the author is what this idea is focused after, not the answers.
However, I see where limitations could be affected to other questions by differant posts from other people.
Just thinking out loud.
Answer to your edit: Isn't it obvious...yes.
