my laptop - which I just purchased not 6 months ago - crashed this morning. I tried everything to get it going without having to do a full restore - but nothing worked. So, I drug out the Recovery disks and bit the bullet to try and get this thing going.......took half a dozen tries to get it to do the Recovery, and only by doing a fill system restore, wiping everything from my hard drive. It still isnt working right! Errrr - very very slow to boot up. It took 5-10 minutes just tog et to the Windows XP screen, and even then the music it plays as it loads was all scratchy and distorted. It's operating at a fraction of the speed it normally runs at. I thought perhapsn the RAM had gotten damaged somehow so I reinstalled the factory 512mb (pulling my 2gb RAM) but it still crawls. I am so frustrated with this. I was up almost all day after work trying to fix it. Slept three hours and came back to work. Still trying to get this right. I can't get a clean recovery .... each time at least one file it says is corrupted on the disk and I have to restart the system to get it to finish through the recovery. I have a bad feeling that I'm going to have to take this in tomorrow for service, leaving me with no computer for lord knows how long! So, if you don't see me on after tomorrow morning that's why.
I had taken a few shots for Architecture, but could not enter since I had no connection all day - couldn't even pp them. What a lousy day. :-( |

did you perform repartition and reformatting to your HDD before doing Recovery? Sounds like you got a corrupt partition.
p/s: hey you're back! |

crayon - it wouldnt let me get past the screen for safe mode even. It refused to boot up at all. Now it's still got a lot of issues - such as when I plug in my external hard drive which it has always recognized it doesnt act like it's there at all. Out of the three USB ports, only one is working. Something goofy is going on with this. I tried going into Fanatics chat, but it's not processing fast enough. Nothing I typed would show up. This is very frustrating.
Thank goodness I had all but the past weeks photos backed up onto the external drive. |

I really am not very good at that stuff, but I feel your pain.
6 months old, I would think warranty would cover it.
Good luck, hope you get it up and woking soon !

You need to quit tryin' to fix it and simply turn it off. Every time you try and run it, windows will write crap to the hard drive potentialy writing over anything that might be left of your data. You could still get photo's and stuff of the hard drive, but turn it off and leave it off til you find out for sure... |

Definitely sounds like a hardware problem. I'm guessing since the HD is acting up and the USB ports aren't responding it's probably on the motherboard. Take it in for service. I don't think this is anything you can fix.
*gives Puggers a great big hug*
