Today was my 6th wedding. So far each one has posed it's own challenges. The last one was DARK. This one, well, can we quote Murphy's Law - "Anything that can go wrong will, and at the worst possible moment"
Half way thru the ceremony i find my 18-50 lens on the the 30D is backfocusing...badly. So i swap it to the 20D and it still does it...and i put the canon 50 1.8 on the 30D and it too backfocuses....WTF? the tamron 70-210 is fine on the 30D...turn it all off, clean the contacts on the lens mount and re-boot and it seems OK. So now, as i DL 5gb of pics I await the results of this issue - are ALL the pics badly focused up to that point? As in all the get-ready shots, the bride and bridesmaids shots?
I use a metz flash. it's been very very good to me. i had to get it updated to work with eTTL2 (i had a 300D) and so all seemed well..until the reception. The flash has been funky at times (too powerful, I can't dial the fill flash back - at times anyway.) but i tested it last night and all was well. Until the reception. Things got funky again - Av mode was working correctly. Hell, manual seemed inconsistent. I got pics..some are not real pretty though. Hmmm...flash works fine on the 20D. Is it MY 30D or ALL 30Ds? If it's all then it's Metz' issue...
So I await the results of a days work - pics in focus or not?
Then the week ahead I get to figure out what to do...fortunately I have a friend nearby that has a 30D and a 580EX - so we can sort out this issue.
The backfocusing...dirty contacts? Dirt on the focus sensor? This issue is yet to be determined.
Anyway, I'll post some pics later - they had Dancing Mimes at the ceremony. And the former Mayor of Pittsburgh too (umm...his name is Murphy...)

Eeewwch....Luckily I have never had a serious problem whilst doing a wedding yet (x fingers!). My trusty old 300D has never skipped a beat so far. I hope your photos come out ok and that you can sort out your hardware issues easily!

762 files.
Why oh why did i shoot that much?
converting from RAW is easy.
seperating the wheat from the chaff, so to speak, is what sucks.

At least you didn't wind up shooting everything with an antique Graflex..
Yes, that has happened to me. |

The last wedding I did I took nearly 900 RAW photos. I tried my hardest to reduce these down but I still ended up with 600! It was a very BIG wedding though with a huge bridal party.
Plus, because my wife and I were invited as well anyway we were there from the bride getting ready till after they left! It can be very hard to remove photos that are good but too many similar to it!

Wow, a big wedding party!
Me...ummm, b&g, MPH and BM, 2 maids and 3 groomsmen.
Looks like the get ready pics are in focus.
However, TOO many shots have people with their eyes closed.

Yea its a bugger when things go wrong, did a wedding last week on film, very bright blue sky day and my trusty sunpak5000 fails, down here in these conditions outside its a case of all fill flash -1stop comp.
fortunately I had just purchased a new Minolta 3600 which, thank god is compatable with the film800s so things turned out sweet for me in the end,.
I try to make every shot count ,back up the important ones and go with everything I take.
Over the years I have found the more shots you do the more confused the bride gets with photos coming out their ears, the orders are smaller as well,.
Just a thought from me . |

A mime shot.
One photog locally tries to get too many pics, so to speak, so the b&g can't whittle it down and they have to go to a bigger album...
There was one 'special' guest
The former Mayor.
