I'm thinking of investing in a digital camcorder but don't want to go spending too much money, in case I find that I don't get on with it or find that I'm not really into it as much as still photogrpahy.

So, my question is - can anybody recommnend a good, digital camcorder that's not going to break the bank?

Examples I've found so far are the Canon MV900 (£240) and the Samsung VP-D351 (£210).

Thanks

i have a canon zr-85. i would actually recommend one of the older zr- series camcorders, because they are very inexpensive, and they have an external microphone jack, which is missing on mine and any newer model. you just have read reviews of ones you are lookng at, because two versions (i think the zr-65 and zr-65) had ccd's that died early in their life. i love my camera, and got it for about $200 on ebay, brand new.

I'd love to see some more responses to this, too.

My little Canon MV4i (mini DV) camcorder recently got very sick, perhaps it is even dead.
It still records and plays just fine, but we can NOT convince it to download to the computer. We tried several cables, different computers, etc etc, it just won't do it.

I have no idea where to take it to get fixed, let alone if it is even worth it.

I assume we'll have to buy a new one, but I haven't kept up with the current camcorder technology and don't know which one we should go for this time around.

I like my Sony Digital 8 Handy Cam DCR-TVR290 for what little I do with video. I do wish it had hookups for audio in though.

I chose the Digital 8 over MiniDV for two reasons. It was cheaper than a comparable MiniDV camera and I had a stockpile of Hi8 cassettes.

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm now erring towards the JVC GR-D247 Mini DV Digital Camcorder which I can pick up for £160 (online, inc. VAT and postage). It seems a reasonable camcorder for the money!
