I just noticed that the number of comments received listed in my profile dropped quite a bit to 578. However, if I click on the link, it brings up the page saying 1-25 out of 636 comments.

I don't have photos in the current challenges, so that can't be it. Anyone got an idea where the difference comes from? Should they not match? Or am I just slowly going mad and imagining things? ;)

I'm not sure who runs this site (Drew? Someone else?), but as a web designer myself, I can tell you this is a very complex site. They are wizards, and we need to grovel at their feet in gratitude for all of the data that is provided to us and the various links we have at our disposal on any page we visit in the site. I have improved my photography just by browsing around: this type of browsing flexibility is amazing and amazingly helpful.

I'm sure that once in a while a small bug appears, but that's because of the complexity of the site. There is more here than just internet programming. They've got several programs running that count and tabulate our totals. If they are off by a little, I'm sure they'd like a note saying so: smothered in gratitude!

Kudos guys!

yup. mine says 402, and when I click on it, it says 427. I've only gotten 4 comments on my current photo, so it's off. Drew and Landgon will know and fix the problem. Only way to fix the bugs is to know about them. Thanks for drawing this to their attention. ~Heather~

I just received my 500th comment. Or at least I thought it was. The total comments received on my profile page strangely jumped from 499 to 501.

Figuring that somebody commented on one of my past entries I went to browse my comments received, which shows the total as 561 (and no new recent comments). There are indeed 22 pages of 25 plus a page of 11 so this total is right (I think!!!).

I guess the skipping 500 bit is a new 'featurenotbug' ; )

My favourites total also went off on a tangent last week. At some point, the number of my photos selected by other users increased by one, but totalling the column in the results table showed no increase. I don't think anyone has +fav'ed anything in my portfolio but did consider that it could be linked to the new wishlist feature (it happened shortly after the wishlist link appeared on the voting pages).

I have noticed this a while ago. Whenever I add a picture to my portfolio a comment goes missing from the Received numbers. the comment isn't actually missing from the list.. just one number gets removed every time you add a picture to your portfolio.
I mentioned this to a few site council.. but nothing's happened yet.. so maybe drew can investigate? lol
thanks so much for all the time and effor you put into making this site and stuff, I know how hard and time consuming coding is... ok, no I don't, but i'm sure I can appreciate it :)

I too have had the same problem, e-mailed Langdon and he replied that there is a bug and they are working on it.

Ah, well spotted. I had just added a photo to my portfolio (-1) and removed two (+2) and actually received a comment (+1) which explains why my total jumped up by 2.

I do know how hard & time consuming coding is, and I've also 'inherited' the job of testing & helping debug our web based catalogue system, so I appreciate all the work the guys are putting in too. Keep yer chins up, I promise that list will get shorter 'one day' : )

I've also pointed out in another thread weeks ago, this problem with comments substracting everytime you submit a picture.

Another problem I have noticed is that some users who have never submitted in a challenge have numbers under comments recieved, when you click on the number there are no comments.

That's usually cause they've just submitted in the current challenge, and it gets tallied in the numbers there. Heh, fun.
