Has anyone here actually had a paying job as a result of using one of these websites?

I have looked over them in the past and have always thought that the bids get to low to be worth it. Just my 2 cents :)

Have you given it a try at all?

Me too and have never placed a bid. The same things happens in writing, web design and photography.

Are you talking about photographersdirect.com? Are there others similar?

There are several out there. The only time I tried it was when I was living in Detroit and the competition was really yough. The prices got so low that it wasn't worth the time to look at the website. That was about six years ago. I was just wondering if anything changed.

No-
I think they are more referring to sites out there that allow bidding for projects.

For example, say I need objects in 100 photos isolated and put on a white background or product shots of jewelry. I would post my need to the website and then photographer/PS pros would bid for the job. Basically, the bids start out high, but competition gets the better of people and they will take pennies to do jobs :)

.....and yes, PD is the one who does not allow contributers who sell on the microspayment sites.
