On memorial day the Navy's Blue Angels are doing an air shot at jones beach in NY. They were doing some practice runs today, and I got a few shots from my back yard

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the sky to not looks so flat... its so cloudy out right now =/

Do you have access to any filters? A polarizing filter may help if you have one. Other than that, you might just need to mess around in Photoshop or equivalent software to help enhance some color to the sky. You could also pray for less clouds ;).

I adjusted the levels and did some dodging & burning & got this:

When i was in the Navy I was fortunate enough to go to photo school at Pensacola where the Blue Angles are home based at. Even after seeing them every day they never cease to amaze me. I'm going to be shooting the Thunderbirds in Aug here in Vt. My brother is in the Air Force and is going to be able to get me places nobody else will get. Look for those at the end of summer.

Okay :-)

Meanwhile, set up a blue-to-transparent radial gradient and have it ready to use. Use the magic wand to select the sky. Create a duplicate layer from BG and erase the sky from it. Make BG the active layer and use cntrl-shift-N to create a new, empty layer. It is now BETWEEN the two layers, BG and planes-only. Use the radial gradient to fill the empty layer. Instant sky-with-a-spotlight :-)

I combined Bear Music's idea with the cloud render filter and a motion blur, does this work for you?
