Hello..
im about to sell my digital rebel and im gonna sell the kit too... 18-55mm kit..
i really love the wide option.. but the lens is not that good and sharp..
contrast was fine but the sun light just killed me and the sharpness as well..
cant afford now the 17-85 IS so i was wondering if anybody had the 18-55 kit and the 18-55 USM or ii and can tell me if there is much of a difference..
thx

I think that there are three versions of the kit lens.
The one with USM has that, a USM AF motor. No other difference.
There is a bit of a difference in the optics of the Mark I vs Mark II kit lenses. Although Canon denies changes to optics, most online reviewers found less CA and better sharpness wide open with the Mark II lens.
However, I still wouldn't call the Mark II kit lenses Pro Grade or anything.
