I notice that the external DC input voltage for my FZ7 is set at 8.4 volts. I'm thinking about constructing an external battery pack and wonder how critical this voltage is, since 8.4v appears to be out of step with common 6/9/12v battery sources.
The rechargable SLA batteries I've seen so far are 6v or 12v. Has anyone accomplished a project like this using this type of battery? Any pointers on circuits/methods much appreciated.
Thanks. |

The guts of this question seems to be that unless one can hit the exact voltage required by the cam, it's better to stay away from DIY. There are a few articles about DIY battery packs on the web and several of them use larger rechargable niMH batteries, which kind of defeats the purpose of using cheaper SLA batteries. SLA batteries apparently cannot cope with high-current demands of digicams.
Too bad :) |

You could pull off 8.4 volts with a proper voltage regulator chip wired to a 12 volt battery source.

Sure, but SLA batteries still don't cut it delivery-wise. |
