This is one of my attempts to restore a photo. In one case the photo so bad that after three days of trying I had to send back and admit defeat.

I wanted to fix the leg a bit better and finish the hand but I ran out of time. I would have had to put off returning the shot for another week.

Ok it looks like I have forgotten how topost photos....yep it's been a while.

Looks like you were sent a tough one!
(For the record, there was one I couldn't do that Mavrik took on. Sometimes you just have to have the "vision" or experience to re-create these....I've certainly learned a lot.)

I agree not only did I get the chance to lend a helping hand. I had the oppotunity to realy put my photoshop skills to the test. I few techniques I discovered in restoring these are likely to help a lot in my day to day editing as well. This was most definately a learning experiece.

FYI...Two articles ran in the local paper (The Free Lance-Star - Fredericksburg, VA) yesterday (Sunday, February 26, 2006). Written by the two photographers that are the driving force behind this project.

Hi all,

I know it has been some time. Thank-you for all of the help and amazing support... we couldn't do it without you. A second trip has been made, and we are looking to do more as well. For those of you who are still working on photos from the first round... well, we could use them back, whatever you have done on them. There are about 100 photos that made it out that never came back in. No biggie, just thought I'd ask.

I'll take more if theres a need still. And my PS skills have gotten better since round one!

Really folks, imagine having nothing left of your past and waiting waiting for those memories/pictures to come back....You see people returning to devastated homes and all they look for is photos. They mean so much!

Hello everyone!
We are now looking to make a THIRD trip, this time to New Orleans in the upcoming few weeks. We also have more photos from round two.
Dave and I know everyone is very excited about getting involved, and we appreciate it more than we can possibly say (not to mention the people that you are helping!!). Operation Photo Rescue would not be possible without you!
We are working daily on keeping up with all of the response, e-mails, getting out photos and have a list of volunteers who have contacted us at either oprvolunteer@gmail.com or operationphotorescue@gmail.com. But, we also have full-time jobs, families, second jobs, etc. and want you all to know if we haven't gotten you photos yet, it's not because we've forgotten or are not interested, but are making our way through it all! (We have over 500 volunteers now... that's right... 500!!!!)

We have gathered more photos from the Gulf Coast region, and have some thanks to a volunteer (who started it on her own before finding us) from the tornados in Tennessee (we are not just a Katrina organization, though that is where we have been active. We hope to continue much work for years to come.)
If you have already volunteered or offered to volunteer, we have your name in a database and you will be contacted in the upcoming weeks.
If you have not yet volunteered and are interested in doing so, please e-mail oprvolunteer@gmail.com with your skill level and how you wish to help.
