| I am VERY anal about keeping my equipment clean and in the best condition possible, and I was wondering if storing my Canon Rebel 350D inside a ziploc plastic bag and then inside my camera bag would be bad for it in any way? I won't actually seal the bag, I would hate for any condensation to form but rather just wrap it around the camera and leave it open. I figure if it won't hurt it, why not do everything I can to keep it dust free and scratch free. |

Hmmm, I thought I was anal about keeping my camera clean. I think your camera bag would be more than plenty to help keep it clean. You have to remember that professionals are taking these cameras through the deserts, jungles, antarctica, etc, etc, with nothing more than a camera bag and they pull off amazing shots. Nikon and Canon make quality cameras and you'd be hard pressed to truly damage one with a little dust and scratch here and there. I would skip the ziploc and just stick to your camera bag. Another reason is it seems like a total pain in the ass to always be putting it back in its ziploc. I like to have my camera ready to go, so the fewer barriers in the way the better. Anyway, my two cents for what its worth. Good luck. If you're really concerned about keeping your camera well protected, you might consider buying a pelican hard case. They are waterproof, but they breath and they are without a doubt the best protective case for your camera.
Cheers,

Dump the plastic. Just use a good cam bag and keep cap on camera when lens not in use.

| i dont think the ziploc bag will HURT anything, but who knows? if your out and trying to switch lenses and grab it with the bag on and it slips out of the opened ziploc bag it may end up less usable than if it just had some dust on it. you know? |

Actually the ziploc idea is a very useful one, tho I think having your camera in one all the time is a little over-anal (pardon the pun). Like jaded_youth mentioned, it might cause slippage and end up having your camera dropping to the floor.
On a side note, ziploc together with silica gel pads works wonders when you have to shoot in damp locations. We have those in use while trekking in the reserve forest during the rainy season. Of course, we only put the camera (or lens) into the ziploc after shooting, not during. It's not as bulky to carry around as a dry box. |

I didn't make myself as clear as I should have. I won't put the camera into the ziploc during shooting at all, just for storage purposes.
Thanks again for the advice everyone |

I don't think you're being anal at all, Danny boy. I think this community can collectively help you come up with the perfect camera storage solution. I'll start with the list of materials needed...
Someone else can post the next steps - maybe one per post. :) Glad to help.
Warning: As tempting as it is, don't eat the silica gel! For that matter, don't wear the thong either. |

| Light the silica gel on fire and place it in the bag with the camera is first, right? |

Why are all of the materials in Art Roflmao's post to do with bondage?
Innocent look...

I've heard it said that you don't see what's in the picture, you see what's in yourself...
So maybe a better question is "Why is it that when Art Roflmao posts a picture of common household objects used for packaging that Obsidian sees a collection of bondage related items?"
