I am looking to upgrade to an A3 printer. My budget is between 300 and 350 GBP, I guess that̢۪s in the region on 400 to 450 USD.
Do you have any recommendations? The printer will also be used general printing on A4 in a SOHO environment, so reliability is also an issue.

Nigel,
I have heard that the Canon I9950 is a good quality printer, these are available from Warehouse Express for about £358, catridges are about £8 a peice and there are 8 catridges so £64 for a complete set.
There are others but this is the one I will be getting and I know people who have it and the results are good and quick.

I've got an epson 2100 (2200 in the states), it takes a while to setup but the prints are stunning (borderless A3+, I think you could pick one up for about £250 now, i think there is a newer model out now. Definately check epson out. 'Offical catridges' are a bit pricey, but I use third party ones and have never had a problem, they work out about £2 each.

Check out the HP 8750 9 ink printer. I don't own one yet but I had it demoed to me and the results straight off the SD card were fantastic at A3. Currently £269 at Warehouse Express.

£142.42 fo a full set of inks that is expensive, you can get 2 sets for the cano for less than this.
Nice printer I agree but i always look at the running costs as well.

I have the Canon i9100, the forerunner of the i9950 I think.
It is a really, really good printer. I do A3 size prints at competition standard for club, regional and national comps.
The only thing I feel I can complain about is monochrome black and white printing. It sometimes comes out with a tint.
Otherwise its a brilliant printer

I have the little brother of the Canon - the i8500 - and I'm delighted with it - as opposed to all the Epson's i ever had, which all universally stank. Maybe I did something wrong, but not one of them could handle subtle graduations in shadows, even with specialist monochrome inks.

If print longevity and the ability to handle really heavy paper is an issue, I'd suggest taking a look at epson printers like the R1800 and the R2400. I was about to get the canon and changed my mind when EVERY salesman as well as a book on fine art printing that I purchased told me to go with Epson. I'm looking to upgrade my HP Deskjet 5550 (A4) to something A3 sized, as I'm starting to get into printing more and more.
Can anyone recommend a decent photo-friendly A3 printer? (this thread is 06, so I'm sure there's been some updates since!)

| R1800, newer R1900 or the R2400 would be the Epson ones to consider. |
