Sorry to hear that. You just missed a chance to switch to Canon :P

backorder sucks. sorry to hear that. I was afraid of that when the 30D came out but Canon made enough for everybody. I bet they even have one for you. Ohh, sorry, couldn't resist.

Neither are directly comparable. this makes it tough for a consumer, but probably better for the camera companies.

the D50 is less than the 350XT, but the D70 is more than that but less than the 30D. The 5D is a full frame 30D for twice the price, so you gotta have a love for full frame to go that route. The D200 and 1D canon bodies are the Pro bodies for PJ and other hard pro use.

By the time you graduate to a pro body of either brand you're committed to a camera brand/system.

IF you look at lab results of the D200 and the 5D the images are better, not by much due to the sensor size but lab results don't lie. The noise issue has also been addressed by Nikon and due to new alogriythms have reduced the noise to almost nothing. Especially when you consider the issues of past. Honestly either camera will give you outstanding results. As far as the 30D being close, not really. They are two cameras who are targeted for two diffrent audeinces. You are right that the diffrence in two mp's is not much, its the other options and how sturdy the D200 is that give it a big edge over the 30D.

Yeah, that was pretty much my point. Except that the 5D lab results are going to be better, as Kirbic later stated in pretty much every single aspect.

There is a difference between having lower noise characteristics in the sensor and having better noise reduction algorithms. Noise reduction is ALWAYS adding artificial information to a picture. The negative effects of this are often seen in DPReview comparison ISO tests where cameras with stronger noise reduction algorithms pretty much always have muddier detail because of this introduced artificiality. The noise is less, but the information is compromised.

The other features do indeed make the D200 more appealing to some users and that was my point too.

I agree with everything else, just took issue with the 'image quality' comparison...

LOL, I do agree that Canon is excellent. But like I said I have Nikon lenses and Flashes, which makes me have to stick with Nikon. Not in the mood to toss money out the window.
