I'm the proud new mama of this:

my new baby

Does anyone know anything about these old polaroids? I don't know if it works, but it'd be cool to get it operational. I only paid $2 so I figure spending a few bucks to get it running would be okay.

P.S. it's from the 60's I think

A Swinger! Ain't seen one of those in decades! I have a mint-condition SX-70, the Rolls Royce of Polaroids, even has real leather:

Can't get film for it now, though... :-(

I saw a few of those on Ebay too (probably not in as good condition).

There's a camera store in Calgary called Vintage that (duh) only deals with vintage stuff so I'm thinking I"ll get them to look at it.

I just think it's neat. I'm going to walk around Montreal with it pretending like it's some new fancy camera from Europe *giggles*.

badass! how great that you posted this...i was talking to my roommate just a few weeks ago about how, when i go out, my friends always get pissy at me beacause i don't bring a camera and take pics of everyone/thing. for a while i thought i would get one of the cute little 'put in your pocket' digital cams...but then i recently decided that i wanted to get my mom's old polaroid and use that instead. talk about coolness and instant gratification...love it!

Expensive, though; even IF film is still available, it's costly...

LOL exactly! I just love the retro feel the photos have (well, if the thing works that is). If I can find film I'm sure it'd be expensive but it'd be worth it!

That was my first camera 36 years ago.
Took Polaroid Type 20 film pack. Later replaced with a 20C film pak.

The original type 20 film had to be coated with some fixitive stuff that came with the film, after letting it "develop" for 15 seconds.

I don't believe the 20 or 20C film packs are available anymore.

Polaroid made millions of these little babies, so the camera itself is not worth anything from a historical\antique perspective.

Hey Lori,
Check the camera store (yes, that's the name) on 11th and 8th SW across from Safeway. I'm sure you know it. I swear they have everything right up to an old enlarger. The thing is huge.
If they don't have the film, they'll be able to tell you where to get it.

Edit: The Camera Store

I was helping clean out my wife's grandmother's house a couple weeks ago and found that same camera. She had a few other old ones too. I got to keep this one. Polaroid Land Camera is what it's called. Pretty cool. I'll have to get it out of my closet and display it on a shelf one day.

"Polaroid Land" is a more generic term; Edmund (Edward?) Land started the Polaroid company. The one illustrated is a SX-70 Time Zero, a few years newer than the one I showed, which is first-generation.

Cool, thanks for the clarification. :) Any idea what that gold disc is supposed to be? Some sort of flash?

The gold disk is the sonar autofocus mechanism!

Polaroid still has Instruction sheets available.

The gold disc is sonar, for determining the distance to the subject (ultrasonic ranging) for autofocus. Yup, there's honest-to-God bat technology in your camera!

That's awesome! Thanks for that link. I never knew sonar was used in cameras. That's pretty wild.

This thread is interesting to me since I just uploaded some Polaroid prints I made today with an old 450 camera. It is an accordian style that takes pack-film. After some trial and error (the error mostly involving the fact that it needed batteries and I wasn't aware of this at first) I was able to make these prints.

Now I'm waiting to find an XS70 really cheap somewhere.

BTW, you can still get film for an SX70. Look on ebay for starters. It's not cheap but it is available.

I love it! Now I have to get a polaroid camera that actually works so I can try out that film.

I'll pm you my adress so you'll send it to me.

I got it!

What great condition! The shutter works fine and the whole thing looks mint, even has the original bubble wrap (which has sort of started to decompose) and little envelope to send prints away to Polaroid if you wanted copies made. Very cute! Now I just have to find some film!

"swinger" info can be found here... It takes type 20 roll film, which has been discountinued...maybe you can find some old stock somewhere? But then who knows if it'll actually still be "good"... I have a couple of old polaroid cams, from the 40's and 50's that took the roll type film...they were so cool...instant vintage, deckle edges and all.
