I am sure this old news but, I just picked up these new toys ,it downloads 1GB of raw files in 1 min and 10 sec. You can also stack up to four of them together and download or work from mulitple cards at the same time .A little expensive but worth it . The CF card clears the buffer so fast! I can't believe it. No more wating !

Are you using the FireWire version or the USB 2.0 version?

Ah... with that kind of transfer speed, I thought so! It would be interesting to see how the USB 2.0 unit compares. I really hate the time it takes to transfer to the laptop through the cardbus adpater, and it seems impossible to get the one 32-bit cardbus adapter that used to be available :-P

I have this one as well ,I tried to get a answer from Lexar about daisy chaining them together but have not heard back from them yet ,so I tried it and it works. It even works better than it did when it was not plugged into the back of the pro reader. I had a lot trouble with it thats why I tried the PRO model.

I have the RW019 FireWire reader on my desktop system @home, and it has spoiled me rotten. I love the speed!
I decided to do a little research again, since it's been three or four months since I last looked, and I found this!
Methinks I'm gonna order one of those. Goodbye to slow transfers to the laptop!

It even works well with the San disk 512 MB 55 sec to download Raw files from the smaller reader plugged into the back .
Sorry guys to go on about this but it is so fast .It was always a pain to come back with a couple of cards full of images and have to change cards.I had to use the remove hardware safely then wait before I could put the other card in , now I can work off 2 cards at the same time, and change the cards like I did with USB reader
Way cool I am so happy !!!

The Pro reader blows the RW109 away ,but MY RW109 works much better when I hook it up to the pro reader.
yep goodbye to slow transfer speeds ! LOL

| Oh man, I want one of those now.. I broke my cheap USB 2.0 reader so I've been using my old USB 1.1 one, which takes like 7-10 mins to copy the files when the card is full. I told myself I should spend money on things that'll improve my pictures first, but... heh |

Well I got this new laptop and it is amazing and since I have not used the desktop. Got a 17" wide screen on the laptop and a 21" second monitor (from the desktop) added for editing. I hated having the camera tethered to the unit and saw that. Seemed a reasonable solution at a pretty good price.

UPDATE: Came home today and UPS had already been here. This is a pretty slick little unit but there are some little quirks:
1. Installation says to put reader in slot after starting system. BUT - it says nothing about having to have a card (even a blank one) in the reader for the system to recognize it. So put a card in for install.
2. You cannot leave it in the slot and just put your cards in and out. It is a little tricky to get the cards into the device and care must be taken. The pins are protected by a spring loaded plastic piece so they aren't exposed when not in use.
3. In order to protect your cards you either have to power down to remove the reader or use the Safe hardware Removal routine to safely remove it.
4. All of these are eclipsed by the incredible speed. I just loaded a 1 gig card with junk RAW shots just to fill it. Then transferred the whole card at once to a test directory - 42 seconds for the transfer. Can't beat that when what you are used to is having the camera tethered to the comp.
For 44.90 US delivered it is the best gadget I have bought yet for the camera.

Adorama has the Delkin Cardbus 32-Bit High Speed Compact Flash Card Adapter for $5 less than B&H is selling the Lexar. I suspect that they are the same thing, the Lexar being a rebranded version. But that is based on me seeing the Delkin a few months ago and just discovering that Lexar is offering one today. They look the same in pictures and both claim to transfer as fast as the card and computer will allow. Can anyone shed more light on this? Are they the same unit in different clothing? If not, is one faster than the other?
Thanks for the tips Alienyst. It's nice to be able to know those kinds of things before buying. What card were you using in your test?

Quirky is the word I used for RW109 for the desk top .That remove hardware safely routine was a big time pain in the butt when you have 6 or 8 CF cards to download

Hmmm, the Delkin is available again?? I looked high and low in January, and could not find it anywhere, nobody even listed it on their site. I found old references to it, and I concluded that they must have discontinued it for some reason.
It could be that the Delkin and Lexar are the same unit; a quick x-ray of each would tell the tale. Not about to buy both tho find out though! |

The plot thickens!
Further research has found that Adorama also offers the Lexar model, same Mfr#RW021001 as at B&H. However at Adorama it says "Apple Macintosh computers are not supported at this time." while B&H claims "Lexar's 32-bit CardBus reader extends the portable, high-speed solution to Macintosh users for the first time."
The product description for the Delkin and the Lexar at Adorama are the same but the Lexar costs 2 bucks more.

I used a Lexar 1 gig 80X Pro CF card for the test.
The CD that came with it has both MAC and WIN drivers on it. |

I got an eFilmPRO Cardbus 32 CF adapter by Delkin for $43.65 shipped from B&H. Been using it for about two weeks and am pleased beyond words. With my SanDisk Extreme III 1 gig cards it will transfer a full card in 2 minutes. My SanDisk branded 6 in 1 card reader took 12 minutes to do the same transfer. The package says it works with both Windows and Mac. Highly reccommended.
