Just wondering on this challenge if images of cars or maybe even die cast car collections would fit? |

To me it would still class as still life if the car was stationary/parked. It is still....just a larger version of a still subject then a bottle of wine for example.
So if you took a photo of a road with cars passing by...I would not count it as still life....!
But if you took a photo of a car...maybe on display....with no driver or passengers...then I would class it as still life.
My two cents worth...!

Thanks, that was my idea. Just wanted to see if it would count as still life because most of them I saw from the previous challenge were of flowers or bottles of wine or stuff like that. Thanks. |

I think part of the exercise of still life painting - like the classic ones of plates and dishes and cups(ΓΆ„ΒΆ?) Is the reproduction of a variety of textures and substances.
front element\'s example
is about perfect, actually. I\'d probably give it somewhere in the order of 9 to 11.
The tendency to reach out and grab the sharpening function (I do it almost as a matter of course) tends to render things a bit plastic, so it might be an idea to be wary of it.
Then again, that\'s just me and the criteria of bright bright bright, sharp sharp sharp, etc seem to be more universal, whatever the challenge is.
As for a couple of questions - a candle is fine, but especially if you can capture the lighting effect of the candle. Toy cars (or whatever) would ideally be in contrast with something else, e.g. if it were a plastic toy car it would be on a wooden table and/or with a textile backdrop. Diecast with enamel paint chipped around the vertices? Reproduce that credibly and you get a lump of my vote.
I note that Wikipedia emphasises the freedom gained in the arrangement of design elements within a composition in still life as opposed to landscapes and portraits.
Can\'t wait to see the results - or to hear anyone\'s riposte to what I\'ve blurted out here... |

I did reasonably well with a non standard still life shot in the first challenge... |

That's a lovely picture. I guess good pictures get good results anyway and that that's a good thing. Here are a million dumb reasons why I might have voted down your pic.
You didn't compose the subject - i.e. you took a picture of leaves where they were lying rather than arranging them. (I said dumb reasons, right?
The lighting and or PP sharpening has rendered everything a bit plastic-y, so the leaves look a bit leathery and the water looks like gel that was put on.
I'm still 999,998 short of the million here, so it must be good :) |
