I posted this thread back in February about my move to the Denver area. We are just about settled in now. My wife stayed back in LA to sell our house. It sold about a month ago and we have now purchased a home in Castle Rock.

Now that we are somewhat settled in, I wanted to see if any in the Denver area would be interested in getting together to take some photos? I'm open to any location. I have been a few places already. Garden of the Gods, Cripple Creek, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Rocky Mountain National Park, George Town, Central City and Blackhawk but would love to go back to any of those locations.

One more thing, if anyone lives in the Boulder area, 4 of my photographs will be on display for the grand opening of a new Starbucks Coffee at Baseline & Broadway in Boulder May 25th.They will be on display for a month.

Hey Eric,
Good to see that your family is all settled in in Denver. Castle Rock is a nice area. Must be really grown up now. It was growing leaps and bounds the last time I spent time in the area, nearly 20 years ago! We have friends who used to live in Elizabeth.

I would be in for that. I'm over in Lakewood.

I'm in if the timing is right.

I'd be very interested in tagging along with somebody as talented as yourself.

Hey Fritz,
We really like Castle Rock. Elizabeth is a neat little town as well. If you ever get out to Denver give me shout.

I am getting back to Denver in a week. Castle Rock is a nice area. Gotta love The International, Castle Pines Golf Club and Country Club of Castle Pines. I am in Downtown Denver, so fairly centrally located. I too have been to most of those areas, but am always up to going many more times. Or new areas are good as well. We'll get something going. Sweet on the Starbucks thing.

What about Golden Gate State Park?

I'd be in for something depending on the date. I work a screwball schedule. Anyone been to Roxborough State Park?

Roxborough State Park is pretty sweet.

I have never heard of Golden Gate State Park....Where is it?

Roxborough...

About 30 miles west of Denver.

These were taken on July 4th last year:

There are some old abandoned cabins in the area:

This one was taken a couple years ago in October, which is when most people hear about it - it's called "Golden Gate" for a reason, lots of aspens.

Very nice karma. Probably makes sense to purchase a state park pass for me...Have the national park pass already. Encourages us to get out to the parks more if you get a pass.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

Yeah, Roxborough is awesome! But it's practically my backyard, so I'd be open to most anything. Golden Gate is cool as well.

I'm 4 hours from Denver as well but would be interested depending on when. I've been to Garden of the Gods a couple of times but the whole front range is wonderful!

This shot was taken from Golden Gate!

Roxborough is nice too! Mt. Evans is pretty sweet as well.

How's this coming along? Anyone have a plan?
05/16/2006 05:30:00 PM · #19
I am still up for it. Just need to start to take stock of people defiinitely interested, dates, and locations.

Names that said they would be interested:

qmdi
karmabreeze
MWitt
pekesty
Kivet
Cutter
lepidus
tuffy

I am sure many others in the area would be down. But even if not, this is a start. So do we want to do this very soon (1-3 weeks). Or plan it for like the end of June, early July? If we planned for 6 weeks, that would give some other Denver/Colorado people time to see the thread. But it is not up to me, just getting the thinking started...

Location Ideas:

Rocky Mountain National
Golden Gate Park
Roxborough State Park

But there have to be other ideas too, so let's think of more locations....

I maybe in. I have a lot of business travel this summer, but might be able to break away to the north or west. Leadville or Buena Vista (highest peaks in Colorado) are spectacular for scenery and wildflowers in June & July. I know lots of out-of-the-way placed in those areas. Also, near Denver is Guenella(sp?)Pass; it gets ya above timberline and alpine wildflowers and Mt. Bierstadt are great photo opportunities. Just some thoughts. Van

great idea vtruan. let us know your schedule if you want to help us in those "out of the way" places. Guenella Pass, been there once, believe it takes a bit over an hour to get there down 285 maybe??? Either way, glad you chimed in to the thread.

Interested here...just need to know the date. :)
05/16/2006 06:32:51 PM · #23
Depending on when -- count me in. My Saturdays through June are booked with weddings. Sundays are hit and miss but not nearly as booked.

There's a great 4-wheel drive trail by Vail, supposed to be one of the most scenic in the state. Or at least that's what my book says. It's one that doesn't require 4-wheeling, heck we've done it in my Lexus. Lots of wildflowers, creeks, Mt Holy Cross. Very pretty for Colorado landscapes.

decrazyrn, depitipton, vtruan

That is why I wanted this thread to keep going because I remembered many more were in the area. There are others in Springs, Golden and other areas of Denver who haven't responded as well.

By the way, did depitipton just casually drop the L-word in her post? Was it even so cavalier as "heck we've done it in my Lexus". Well. Littleton, Vail, booked photography weekends. Someone has been successful.

It seems like wilderness, mountains, rivers, flowers are all sounding important. But let's concentrate on a date.
