This guy is an amazing photographer! How does he create the surreal painting effect?

PS2. Don't ask me how. I've been a fan of that guy's clown shot ever since he uploaded it.

Nice stuff. I'm not sure why everyone's so confused about how he does it though; the answer's obvious ΓΆ€” he uses lots of Photoshop!

Straight from the Bear's mouth, you can take it to the bank :-)

Yup - some neat looking stuff there. More digital art in my opinion than photography though. The processing goes so far as to make it no longer look like photography.

There are a few rather disturbing ones there!

(chubby boy at upper right, guy w/ no eyes and a knife, close up of bearded face w/ all white eyes)

Very interesting work.

And the one near the bottom w/ "cranial rectosis" is pretty funny!

Damn, but what an awesome photographer/artist. That's what you can do with PS (at least, when there's no challenge restrictions).

I'm sure it is something like this:

Mask, mask, mask more mask....

levels, curves....

burn, dodge, burn, burn, dodge....

May take days to get the effect he likes...

Repeat...

Yes, talent with the tools. Definitely more painterly than photographerly (huh?), and consequently more emotive. Just stunning stuff.

If you like these, you should certainly check out Joel-Peter Witkin. Quite a bit more edgy though, so consider yourself forewarnedOn Zone Zero
