Check this pic of a damaged home. I was at wide angle 18mm 'ish. I have a Promaster filter. When filter is off I don't get the dark bands on the edge. Lens is an 18-200mm VR Nikon. When filter is off the lens I don't get these dark areas.

How can I fix this?

Lens and filter size is 72mm.

Thanks,

Kenskid

are you just using the one filter? or do you have others on there aswell?

it seems like your getting vigneting, those are the black corners you see. This would only be caused if the edges of the filter are in the picture.

At wide angle your lens is catching the edge of the filter.

I have a UV also. Is a UV necessary if you have a polarizer? I can't be sure but I think I tried it w/o the uv and polarizer only. I think the effect was "less" but I think the black corners still showed up.

I'm hooked on a polarizer in the sunshine. I can't give it up!

With wide angle lenses you sometimes need the ultra thin filters to avoid vignetting.

if you take of the UV then you should be ok. Most of the time vigneting only happens when your stacking filters such as you have done. UV filters are good to protect the camera and lens elements, but for a little while taking it off wont do any harm :)

Even with no other filters on, I get vignetting at wide angles with my PL...

Ultra wides, and 18mm is close to that, need the annoying thin filters which won't you use a real lense cap, but they won't vingette either, required for the 10mm ,but maybe your 18mm wants one

Are you using a sunshade ? if so, that could be the problem...
