It's official! I've put in my notice at work (does 7 weeks notice seem sufficient?), sold my condo, in the process of selling all my worldly possessions (except my camera that is) and am officially on a perma-vacation June 30th and am leaving town!

Been kicking around the west for 6 years, it's time for a change.

I have no real plan, so although I could say I won't be around for a very long time, I won't because who knows....I could make it as far as Balzac and never leave (you'd find that hilarious if you were from Calgary).

I have to thank God every day not just for another 24 hours of breathing, but for such an amazing opportunity.

i gave 7 weeks notice at my job last summer and it was the worst mistake i ever made.

Well, get your ass over to Cape Cod; it's the opposite of "west" and there's a room with your name on it here. When you get bored, you can swim to England...

You know, the south is good too...maybe you could go far east and south and head to Austrailia...that way, you could get warmth, weird animals, and drains that go the other direction.

No matter where you go, you can always go back (although that may not be very appetizing).

So, have you resorted to throwing darts at a map yet? By the way, a bit of advice - tis easier to hit a map than a globe with darts...the spherical globular shape can makes the darts bounce off and hit other things.

Good luck...

Good Luck to you where ever your fancy takes you. And don't forget to check in with us every now and then to let us know you're ok, and to share a few photos of your adventures.

hahah thanks!

The next 7 weeks are going to be tough but I'll manage, I've stuck out worse jobs for a lot longer.

I'm driving across Canada (starting in August) with an aussie friend who's leaving from Newfoundland (that's our end point) to head to the UK and eventually back to Oz so it's not entirely out of the question that I'd end up down there.

Or at Cape Cod for that matter. That's a good proposal and I've always wanted to go there, I went down that way when I was about 6 years old - I can imagine it'd be better the second time around :-)

I know! It's a blessing for sure. Especially since bathing will be sporadic at best :-)

Have a happy and safe journey. There is no time like the present to travel and see the world. I have had the good fortune to travel a great deal and have enhjoyed it to the max.

Two years ago... I was away from home for 6 months and trekked through the USA and am looking forward to another extended trip this summer.

Do it now... you will not regret it, and when you get older you can show your grandchildren photos of all the wonderful places you have visited and the incredible people you met.

ENOY....

Exactly!

I work for an environmental company full of granolas (whom I love!) so I was surprised when I put in my resignation and explained my situation and they weren't very understanding. I keep hearing "people your age always think the grass is greener". It's not that at all. And I resent the implication that I don't have enough life experience or smarts to recognize a good thing. My current job is certainly not 'a good thing'. To me.

They're just jealous.
I, too, am leaving my job (June 16) and relocating to another city (Baltimore). When I first told people I was leaving they got tears in their eyes and told me how much they'd miss me. Then, they started to ask about which parts of my job they could scavenge. Now, they just ask when I'm leaving....and I've got more than a month to go!

I content myself with something a friend from work told me when she left for a position in another state, "Look out for your own best interests, no one else will." This is not a statement of animosity...it's just the way things are.

Happy travels! Keep checking in. When you get to the East coast there may be a room for you in Baltimore if you like. ;-)

Oh, I envy you, Lori! I hope you'll post your adventures now and again so we can live vicariously through you. :) (Who knows? Maybe if you kept a journal, either written or photo, you could make a book out of your travels someday. :)

Wherever your path may lead you, I wish you all the best. May you have safe and (pleasantly) exciting travels.

It's exciting indeed!

I can't wait to walk out onto the beach and putt my feet into the water for the first time this year and to know that I don't ever have to be away from it again if I choose not to be.

tell them to booger off...They, like me, are just jealous. Man I wish I could do that. Ever since I started photography I have wanted to just go and go and go. I want to just travel and see everything. The Navy has given me some of that but I didn't take the opportunities I guess I could have when they were there and now with 3 years to retirement I can't really just give them notice and start walking. Maybe once I retire I can find a way to do more travel like that.

Good luck, be safe, have fun and post images for us to be even more jealous of.

Well I certainly appreciate all the support but definetly don't want people to be jealous.

I did the exactly same thing at your age. My idea was to hitchhike around Australia for 12 months but instead I ended up going from the east coast to the west coast in a month and spent 8 years in Western Australia then came back married with a son, it's funny how things turn out.

I told one of my supervisors today that I'm SAYING I'll stay until June 30th, but that if they piss me off I have no problems leaving a heck of a lot sooner and with way less notice.

I think I'm going to make a t-shirt that implies if anyone at work pisses me off I'll just walk-out. That might make the next 6 weeks smoother :-)

How about:

My mind is wandering
So don't ask me how
Come see me tomorrow
Or two weeks from now....

How 'bout, "I'd Rather Be Hitchhiking!"

ooooo that's a good one....or even:

"I'd rather be stabbed repeatedly with hot pokers than talk to you"

How about:

I have a problem with my eye's.
I just can't see staying here!

GoldBerry calls her boss one morning and tells him that she is staying
home because she is not feeling well. "What's the matter?" he asks "I
have a case of anal glaucoma," she says in a weak voice. "What the hell
is anal glaucoma?"

"I can't see my ass coming into work today".

Good luck to you on your adventure and if you passing thru Toronto stop in.
