When Browsing through made comments it is now possible to browse
"Only 'helpful' comments"
I do want to learn to comment and therefore I want to be able to see those comments that are not helpful. To maybe make additions to them until they can be.
Therefore I want to be able to browse:
"Only NOT 'helpful' comments"
What do you say, can you add that one to the "Browse settings" window.

The other advantage of seeing not helpful comments is that way I can look for new comments on portfolio pictures.

Bear in mind that comments not marked helpful aren't necessarily bad comments; it may be that the photographer just didn't get back to the phtoto to check new comments and mark them. Also, in the distant past, there was no "helpful" check box, so many very old comments are not checked (users didn't go back and check them).
If you're telling the photographer what you liked and did not like about the photo, you're beig helpful. Be honest, and try to be kind. Whether saying something negative or positive, try to talk about specifics: "I like the way the shot is lit" rather than "Nice!" or "It seems as if the focus is behind the subject" rather than "Blurry."

I think there is a flaw in the comments box.
If you EDIT your old comments, the photographer will NOT know you did. |

If I'm browsing through the photos on the site and I see one that I think is nice is it considered inapropriate for me to leave a comment saying "Nice." I ask this because I see advice given quite regularly in the forum as to how people should comment and I don't understand where the advice comes from. I thought I was allowed to say what ever I want as long as I was acting within Site Rules and TOS. Am I mistaken in this? |

as long it's not offensive and within the TOS, I dont see why you cant comment "nice!" in there. It's your right. |

of course you an say whatever you want (within reason). but constructive criticism points out the strong and weak aspects of a shot, while giving suggestions on how the shot could be improved.
everyone likes getting positive comments, but the constructive ones are the most helpful. say nice, sure, but then say why it's nice!

The point I am making is that perhaps to you it is more important to say why it is nice but to other people perhaps they just enjoy getting a bit of positive feedback. I know I do. If someone leaves a comment on one of mine saying "nice" or "great shot" I don't begrudge them wishing for more I just enjoy the compliment. So i don't understand why you feel the need to tell me or anyone else how they should comment. |

I have frequently wished for an option to pull up the comments not marked "helpful." I'd like to check for new comments, missed comments, missed the mark comments and this person doesn't mark comments. It encourages me to keep making comments and I could use the encouragement. ;-)

how about a "DELETE COMMENT" option for the original commentor?
