You may be interested to know that they've updated Spellbound to make it compatible with Firefox 1.5. Basically, it's an extension that will spellcheck html text areas and underline mispelled words as you type. Perfect for, say, posting in the DPC forums. :)

Edited to say: the version for 1.5 is actually still under development.

Here's the forum link:

//forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=351130

and the links to install:

//exchangecode.com/spellbound/downloads/spellbound-dev_20060108.xpi
//dictionaries.mozdev.org/installation.html

It doesn't work with Firefox 1.5, only 1.0.

The version on the site isn't compatible. You'll have to visit the spellbound thread on mozillazine and get one of the development builds.

Whatta bummer. I ran as fast as my fingers could take me to install it, and found it's not compatabile with 1.5, just the later versions of 1.0+

Oh, I gotta chase this! I have to be the world's most inaccurate typist!
I just jumped to FireFox 1.5 @ home, and I'm liking it. I think I finally found a reason to give IE the heave-ho.

The install link takes me to an "untitled" empty page... And I really really miss my spellbound, too :-(

The link to the xpi file must be downloaded to your computer and run from there. Unfortunately when run, in opens Netscape 8.0 and gives the incompatibility error.

I don't run anything. When I click on .xpi files, it brings up the extension installer and I say okay.

Well, I can't get there from here, right now.

TNC, looks like you're downloading a dictionary for spellbound, not spellbound itself.

Well, it's working for me so I'm not sure what's going on with all you guys but I gotta run to camera council for now so I'll check back later and see what I can do.

Weird. I loaded it off the development page and it said it was incompatible and wouldn't load, but when I restarted FF there it was :-)

You mean everybody has not junked IE long ago? :-))) I have been IE-less for a long time and don't miss it for a second (I still test web-sites with it to test the damn hacks I need to add to make it work). Now with the IE tab extension, it's rare that even the stupid sites that don't think FF is a "modern" browser don't work under an IE rendered tab.

Nope! I've *wanted* to, but FF 1.5 is the first time I've felt I've had a truly viable option. And a great option it seems to be!

Without a dictionary how does it know what is spelled correctly or not?

Oh and found the problem. I chose to show the options and then reviewed them carefully. Must select the dictionary installed not use default. So I guess it works now. But not in their test box.
