I'm trying to make the transition to digital after a 15 year lay off from shooting film.
So far the transition has been easy and enjoyable! and I am in the process of teaching myself PS CS2 and wrapping my head around RAW.

My first encounted problem is this.... When I'm shooting in Raw on my canon 30D and then uploading the files to my working folder, the files are being saved as.."CR2" files which, I am assuming are default canon files. Now, I know that PS will not open these as standard files and they need to be converted to readable raw files... but how is this done without it being a long convoluted process? The main problem that I am having is that my supplied Canon software has a glitch with it that I cannot sort out even with the help of the nice people at Canon tech.

So would anyone have a time efficient and easy way of viewing these files? and then converting them for use in Adobe PS CS2?

Also as a side topic... what is the fastest way of down loading files from my CF card? Because of the glitch with the canon software I am unable to down load straight from the camera via USB 2 cable. I have a dedicated card reader which does not seem to see the files on the card when it is inserted and the only way that I am able to upload the images is via the card reader in my HP 8450 printer which seems to take forever!!!

Has anyone (professional or otherwise) have a detailed step by step "Work Flow Chart" that they would be happy to pass on to myself and the other members of DPCHALLENGE? Indicating which software the prefer to use for each step of the process

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Tim
