Chris,
I totally understand your frustration, there are many times that I receive very good comments yet I never quite seem to get the scores that I would like. One thing you have to keep in mind about this site is the fact that the level of photography is higher than anywhere else I know! I find myself looking through publications, photography magazines etc.. and saying under my breath "Damn I could take a better shot than that" or "I see WAY better shots on DPC than this one"
Use this site for what it's for, to increase you level of photography skills all the while having a bit of fun!
Lastly remember that on this site you are being judged by your peer photographers and trust me they are going to be harsh ... with that said don't forget to enjoy your own photographs even if they don't do so well on this site. Some of my favourite shots are ones that never did well, though it doesn't stop me from taking shots that I like.
