Thanks Michael... any pics you feel are too weak to be on there?

| Nice looking site. I really like having background comments next to each photo - it somehow helps me to connect (for want of a better word) with the images. |

| Beetle, I'm glad you commented on that because it was an idea I had early on - I felt it important to present each image in a context - but I found it quite hard to write some of the descriptions. Others were easy. It's good to know that they have a value for some visitors. Thanks for checking it out for me!!! |

Hey Kavey & Pete,
Love the site and the images are spectacular, Deb & I wish you well and hope it reaches the level it deserves.
I agree with the earlier comment about having a Bio, if I were considering a purchase I would like to know more about the photog. |

beautiful images, excellent site! kudos to you both!!
others may disagree, but i was surprised not to find this image
i do hope now that you have the framework in place, you'll be adding to your inventory.
just a handful of suggestions:
1) on your basket page, add spinners to the quantity so that it can be adjusted with the mouse
2) phase 2: add a guestbook so that visitors can sign up for email updates
3) you really need a copyright notice somewhere
4) it may be staring me right in the face, but once i get off the home page, i can't find any way to navigate back to it
lastly, i didn't bother to look at your source, but i trust you keyworded the hell out of your pages for the search engines.
good luck! |

| I looked at your site too, and I agree that the individual comments on each photo are a nice touch, they're what stood out the most to me. |

Kavey - when I looked at your site this morning, everything looked just fine. Professional, yet warm and welcoming.

We will indeed be adding to our inventory but this image sadly doesn't make the grade - it was taken on our old, low resolution Jenoptik point and shoot and I just can't upsize it to anything usable for even an 8x10 print. But I do have lots of new stuff to add.

1) Will pass that to Pete - he's the coder.
2) Great idea!
3) We have expressed copyright in the Help page but I think you're right that it should be more visible and I think I'll ask Pete to include it below each image.
4) You just click on the logo graphic at the top left corner of every page - that's a common shortcut link back to the home page - however I may have Pete add an obvious link as this convention may well not be common knowledge to everyone.
5) I haven't keyworded the images - can one do that?
Moneypenny, Sfalice, thank you both so much for your feedback and kind comments.

it's not the images that get keyworded, it's the html pages, starting with the title (yours is EXCELLENT)
under the tag are a handful of meta tags; here's some of mine, as an example:
there's a whole science to this type of keywording, especially when it comes to google. i don't know how exact a science it is, but there are a lot of "search engine optimizers" out there charging lots of money to do nothing more than add keywords to your pages... |

Oh yeah, I know about page keywording! I was wondering how one keyworded the images!
From what I understand Google updates the way it ranks pages often in order to counteract measures used purely to artificially increase ranking. They no longer take account of text within the html page that is not set to show on the actual page - that's why it took me SOOOOO long to write that introductory passage on the home page - I was pushing as many keywords into it as I could since that's the text that Google will likely take notice of.
They also look for content changes hence our decision to include a regularly changing news section on the home page too.
Skip, thanks SO much for looking into this so thoroughly - I can't tell you how grateful I am for everyone's input here. I was very nervous about the whole design thing since I've never studied graphic design so it's good to know that the site is generally appealing.
On our To Do list is adjusting the design of the top part of the page to reduce the logo in size a touch and also the banner - that will increase the proportion of the page left to the content area. We also need to run through the suggestions in this thread too - we have a guest staying at the moment so haven't had a single moment for the last few days!

There certainly is, but Google no longer pays any attention to META keywords. A few of the older search engines might do, but they were so heavily abused that these days none of the mainstream ones do.
As for search engine optimizers, you need to be cautious. Some of them use some very dubious techniques that may or may not work, and Google can (and do) delist sites if they feel that your site is attempting to artificially manipulate their search engine by using some of those techniques.

OK we've revamped the site quite a bit today so further feedback would be appreciated. Changes include:
1) Moved menus from above the decorative horizontal ribbon into the top bar of the ribbon.
2) Reduced the size of the logo.
3) Redesigned the ribbon to include several images, with saturation dropped down so as not to conflict with the gallery images themselves. Also reduced the height of the ribbon itself.
4) Adjusted spacing between various page elements.
5) Reduced the size of a couple of graphics that we'd missed when sizing graphics down for the web.
6) Added a copyright notice to show beneath every gallery image when viewed at full size.
7) Added an illustration into the Help section on what we mean by a digital title and signature.
8) Fixed typos in Help text pointed out above.
THANK YOU!
PS If anyone knows of any friends or colleagues who might like a print for themselves or perhaps as a gift for someone else, please pass that link on as much as you can!

Just went and checked out your new site. Excellent! Love the colors and the simplicity. Very easy to maneuver around in...and I have to say...I hadn't seen this Photo of yours....it is just too precious!
Very professional looking yet inviting and comfortable at the same time.

Thanks so much for your comments on the site - please do also find negatives as we're really keen on hearing any suggestions for improvement. I'm glad to hear it's generally both visually appealing as well as easy to navigate though.
As for that print - I didn't process most of my Antarctica photos for a good long time after the trip (about a year) - I'd just processed a handful to share and that was it... I'm glad you like it. The reason the title is TBA is that I just can't quite decide - I'm working on that so I'll replace the To Be Announced with the actual print title as soon as I can!

it's really looking great, guys.
here's a link so we won't have to scroll to the bottom of the thread.
one more suggestion: if you are going after an international market, you might consider building in or linking to a currency converter. |
