I am going to get a new A/C unit installed tomorrow. He was going to install 2 power vents in my two attics. I bought them and they are sitting in my garage.

But now people are telling me they wont really be saving me anything, they will burn to much electricity.

I live in Houston
House built in mid 80's. 2100 sq feet.
Very poor ventilation. Just some soffit vents that have been painted over, and just dont work well.

If you have any opinions, I would love to here them.

Not a roofer, not a HVAC guy either, but as a homeowner you still need to replace the soffits or the powered vents won't be able to pull fresh air through them. They will try to pull air either from any duct work you have in the attic or through the attic opening. I would suggest replace the soffits and put some of the little turbines up that are not powered, they will pull the hot stuffy air from your attic fine.

My cousin is a general contractor and he agreed with this statement and that the powered vents were unneccesary.
