I think you did a pretty good job with these. You did an excellent job in changing the backgrounds...would you mind sharing which technique you used here for the backgrounds?

Thanks bowronfam3 for comments.

As for creating back ground, very easy.

1) Create a new background layer

2) Choose two shade of same color one lighter and one darker., say 9a4e42 for the lighter for foreground and 5d0606 , the darker shade for background.

3)Go to Filter> Render>clouds.
after that Go to Filter> Render>Lighting effects.

Here you get good choice, one can experiment alot .

4) I added some noise.

5) Than i had downloaded this action for vignette. It was great.I used that action.

I am sorry i am not good at giving instructions.
I an case of any confusion let me know.

But, how did you remove the original background without it looking so much like you cut out the person?

I'd like to re-do this background, so it doesn't look so much like a sheet (which is what it is):

Honestly speaking i was not very good at removing background my self. I had started many post about finding a great technique to remove background because in past whenever i did it , they used to come out like bad case of cut and paste.

I researched many tutorials.

I have used couple of techniques. While using all the technique i made sure i viewed image @200-300%.

I liked using quick mask with brush hardness depending different situation, say about 60% for borders.I tried pen tool but found selection to be to straight and not enough curvy . In case this doesnt help . let me know. I will send you the url of the tutorial.

I dont what you call that, whenevr i deleted some part of background white colored glow would come, i would clone it and in end i chose blur tool @ 50% for the border , in order to give them softer look
