Considering trashing the P&S era of my life and moving into the big leauges.

How many pictures should i expect to take in each JPEG and RAW with One GB?

And does it matter with different cameras?

Was looking at starting with a used Canon 300 or 350xt

Thanks in advance

I get about 125 RAW on a one gig card with the 300D, the 350D Xt would get less because it is a higher resolution camera, probably around 85 RAW files per 1 Gig.

It depends on resolution and quality for JPEG. But To fine JPEG at full resolution on 350D a 1GB gives you 500 takes or 112 RAW.

I was a little shocked after buying the D200, I only get 60 NEF's on a 1 gig card or 120 high res jpegs.

It's always advisable, but it's not difficult. Also, the camera may already have the firmware updated.

Or, your camera could be like mine and have a hack installed for further functionality ;-)

the 300D i don't think got any updated firmware, no tthe 350. the 20D did.

for the 300D you can load in the 'hack' firmware - search on undutchables or wasia (undutchables is the newer/better one).

as for pics, depends on ISO - the higher the ISO the larger the file in JPG< and I think RAW too.

On my 30D i get about 105 RAW images per Gb.
On my 300D i got 270 Large fine JPG in a gb if i remember correctly. 2.5mb each dependong on iso and image content.
