Let me finish that sentence for you.

"Holding onto Team Pentax's fleeing hopes of an undefeated season..."

:P

I have got to find time to vote on these.

There are some really good shots.

lolol, man if we beat you it's going to sting like nothing else mate!!

I might add that you 'Outcasts' are going to need your best average score ever to beat us in Round 5! Do you have a 4th member with a good score in Round 5??? ;-)

I realized that I have entered several challenges and gotten votes and comments, but had been selfish and not reciprocated enough. So I made an effort this morning to vote in this challenge and to make comments that are as thought out and descriptive as I could (I had my coffee first!).

Here are some general thoughts and comments about what I saw:

Is it just me, or are there quite a few w/ out of focus issues?

To me, the best challenge shots have a strong balance of being a good shot on its own w/ meeting the challenge requirements. There were some that were great shots but had no real reference to anything journalistic and there were very journalistic ones that weren't so good technically. These tended to be in my 4-6 ratings.

The ones that lack technically and journalistically were in the 1-3 range.

The ones that had very good journalistic qualities and were great photos were in the 7-10 area.

I tried to vote on a range of shots and end up w/ a bell curve as far as scoring so that everyone from the best to the "not-so-best" got comments.

To those I rated low - I'd suggest looking at the others in this challenge and consider objectively how you stack up. Why did that one do well?

Titles - what are opinions on titles? To me, they are just this side of pointless. I like there to be a title rather than "IMG1234.jpg", but a great image w/ awful title will not get a reduced rating from me. Conversely, an image that totally relies on the title to connect it to the challenge is not going to get rated highly. I was dinged in my first challenge for this and I think it was 100% justified. If the shot cannot hang in the challenge w/o the title, something's not good enough.

Tbat's my $0.50 philosophy. Good job to everyone who entered and I plan to TRY to vote on more in the future.

I finished voting in this challenge and have to say that it was refreshingly enjoyable to see pictures that tell a story rather than just capture a pretty object in a technically perfect way. Some great "stories" from some of you - nice work!

Hanging in the 5.6 range for most of the voting. I think probably the general idea is that the photo is good, but not special. I can agree with that. Considering that it was taken at 3200 iso, I'm glad it turned out as well as it did!

i knew it this would happen :-)
challenge details: "Put yourself in the shoes of a magazine or newspaper photographer and try to capture a shot worthy of the front page."

does magazine photographer means that the photo must say some "news" ? i think not, it can definetly be sports, animal or travel magazine ... right ? so there is no need for a photo to say/show "news"

just my opinion and i'm not an expert :-) , just going after challenge details

peace,
goran

Note to self: Submit a sports photo. It's impossible for those to get DNMC votes.
