Trying to do a close-up shot where I want the background in focus as well as the foreground...using 17.5-45mm lens...any advise on proper camera settings?

On A mode...set aperture to as high an f-number as possible
May need tripod because shutterspeds will be longer

dayuuuuuuum it's embarassing to ask a 17 year old for info that a 47 year old can't decipher in a manual!!LMAO!!! Where abouts in the UK are you?? Spent 3-4 months last year in Guernsey, Channel Islands, and made a few trips over to London and around. DROP DEAD Island and waters there.

hehe...I've been brought up with old film SLRs so haven't had the luxury of "auto" anything... just gotta understand it all from first principles.
I'm in Winchester - about 1/2hr-3/4hr from the South coast, right in the middle near Southampton. Never visited the Channel Islands before - we don't have the waters they do but the New Forest's pretty nice.
