Call for Entries
Third Annual "Alternative Photography" Contest and Exhibition

Criteria: Almost anything goes! (The judges reserve the right to decide what alternative means.)

Eligibility: Professional or amateur photographers.

Deadline for Entries: Friday, May 19th, 2006
Your entries must arrive on or before 5 pm on May 19th. If you would prefer to drop off your print in person, you may do so on Friday, May 19th between 12-5 PM. Winners will be announced June 2nd.

Exhibition Opening: Friday, June 30, 2006. Winners will take part in a photo exhibition at the Julia Dean Gallery with the opening reception on Friday, June 30, 2006. One first-place winner will receive a $100 cash prize. Please note: Winners will be required to pay for the framing of each photo accepted into the exhibit. In order to unify such a diversity of images, we want all of you to frame your pictures at our local frame shop, Universal Art Gallery (they will give you a real good deal), unless your work cannot be framed in a traditional manner, or if the framing is integral to your presentation. In this case you will be responsible for framing your work within our guidelines.

Submissions should include: Incomplete entries will not be considered.
1. A completed and signed entry form taped to the back of your photograph. You will need an entry form for each submission. Please see our website for the application: //juliadean.com/competitions/alternativecontest.html

2. A self-addressed-stamped postcard if you wish to receive notice of receipt.

3. Unframed/unmounted exhibit quality prints. In other words, no "work" prints. Size limit: 16x20 or smaller. Please DO NOT sign the front of your photograph(s), as we like the entries to be anonymous.

4. A typed explanation of the "alternative process(es)" used. (Do not put your name on this typed explanation to remain anonymous.)

5. $20 entry fee per photo.

6. For return of photos: All entries not accepted for exhibition must be picked up at our gallery by June 16, 2006 at 5PM. All entries accepted for exhibition must be picked up at our gallery by Friday, August 10, 2006 at 5PM. If you cannot pick up your submission(s) at our gallery, then we must have a valid credit card to pay for shipping and handling to return your work. We will not store your work after August 10, 2006.

Possibly, but only if you do.

GO CUBS.

Well, I *would* submit....but then when I win, I'd have no money to fly out there and accept the reward! ;-)

Seriously though, I DO think that you should enter. And if I was anywhere near there, I would love to go see that exhibition!!

GO CUBS is right!!!! (Just don't tell my hubby, he's a Cardinals fan....can you believe that??)

Elizabeth,

If you enter, and when you won, I would be happy to represent you, and send you the check. I would even video tape the darn thing so that you can obsorb the glory by proxy.

I am considering entering, but, being the hack I am, and the time involved with my burnt out career, I don't know when I can. Not giving up, just still considering.

Just a side note, before I was adopted, one of my stepdads last names were Costello. Do you see the point in this observation?

Hehehehehehe :-) Yeah, I get it ;-)

BTW, who's on first? ;-)

And thanks for the encouragement, but I don't really have anything in my portfolio that I would consider "exhibition worthy."

Consider all you want and all you need :-) But when it comes down to it, what are dreams for if they're not for reaching? Heck, maybe I'll just browse through your portfolio and enter something *for* you! :-) hehehehe.

You won't find anything but a bunch of hacked together fluff. But, thanks.

Sean Marshall, what a pitcher. Good to see Lee back. (Cub talk)
