Listen to this shitty luck!!
I went to the ATM and withdrew $250.00-
I only recieved $170.00 bucks, I got screwed 80 bucks.
I know I have to contact the Credit Union/which also owns the ATM I used.
My Question is, If anyone knows, how big of hassle is this gonna be, any idea what I'm gonna have to do, and will they fight this? I mean when they balance the ATm it should show that amount being off, correct??
Any idea on how long this whole ordeal might take?

| Same thing happened to me once, supposed to give me $80 but gave me $60. Happened on a Sunday and I showed up at the bank first thing Monday. They had a technician open up the back of the machine and there's some audit device they could read. I was in and out within 15 minutes. |

Keep your receipt. Confirm with your bank that the full amount was actually withdrawn. The ATM will have a record of the transaction and the bank will (ok, should) know if it is out of balance. But depending on the size of the bank you'll probably have to really push them to get them to check. Don't let them tell you they can't - because they can, they just don't want to since its a hassle.

They ATM was at a Convenience store, but it is owned by my Credit Union.
So I dont think they are gonna send out a tech to the store, maybe if the ATM was @ the bank--
I wish it that is only gonna take 15 minutes, but I feel like its gonna be a PAIN!

But it's good that it's owned by your bank - that gives you leverage. You can always threaten to take your accounts elsewhere. Provided you're not a deadbeat customer.

Your bank settles the ATM regularly -- they have to for audit purposes. An ATM in a branch is settled daily, a remote ATM at a convenience store might be settled weekly.
Keep your receipt, contact your bank and let them know of the problem; they should be able to easily determine whether the ATM was out of balance that day.

It all depends on what country you are in...some seem to have slightly different laws then others.
I worked in the bank for quite a few years...and if any of the tellers (including the ATM) was out, even once cent, then we would stay there until it was found. Sometimes this meant right into the night and even taking the balance sheets home and going over them until it was found. Very labor intensive but absolutely necessary.
So if the ATM was out then the same procedure would be in place and the person belonging to the monies would be notified.
Again...it all depends on the country and possibly the bank involved. But definitely contact them as it will make their job somewhat easier.

As a former Bank Manager...all the previous advice given is correct. In my experience a remote atm may be physically balanced weekly rather than daily, however settlement totals are taken daily. Based on the settlement they should be able to see that the machine misfed. Worst case scenerio they may not be able to physically verify until that balance.
If the shortage of funds is an immediate issue (of which it WOULD be for me!!). The key phrase is "provisional credit". The bank can issue you provisional credit until the issue is resolved. Almost like they can immediately 'lend' you the money while they research.
Obviously your character, length of business etc will work in your favor to receive the provisional credit.
Good Luck. In nearly all cases these are easily determined, but some patience with logistics may be necessary.
